⚖️ SCOTUS WATCH | DOJ Asks Supreme Court to Take Up Arizona Voter Roll Case

The DOJ has asked the U.S. Supreme Court to take up a case that could give states greater authority to review voter rolls for noncitizen registrants close to elections and require documented proof of citizenship to register to vote.

The case stems from a 2022 Arizona law requiring county officials to regularly check voter rolls against databases to identify noncitizen registrants. The 9th Circuit struck it down, finding it conflicts with the NVRA. The DOJ argues NVRA protections do not apply to those who were never eligible to register in the first place.

The Supreme Court’s decision on whether to take the case could set new national standards for voter roll maintenance.

Federal Court Declines to Block Mail Ballot Executive Order

On March 31, President Trump signed Executive Order 14399, directing the Postal Service to only deliver mail ballots to voters on verified citizenship lists — and requiring states to submit those lists 60 days before any federal election.

A federal judge has declined to block the order for now, as multiple lawsuits proceed in D.C. federal court. Nearly a third of all voters cast mail ballots in the 2024 general election.

We’ll be watching closely as litigation continues ahead of the November midterms.
