We are a national nonprofit that empowers communities through technology access and education.

Compudopt is a 501c(3) nonprofit organization founded in Houston, Texas in 2007, on the belief that every child deserves equal access to education and opportunity. Our mission is to provide technology access and education to underserved youth. The idea for Compudopt began with our founder and president John Osha, who realized that the life cycle of computers in corporate environment is typically l

ess than three years. When they no longer meet the needs of corporate teams, they are usually shelved, stuck in a closet, or sent to a landfill. But these lightly used tools can be a dream come true for young learners who lack access to a computer at home and are ready to broaden their skills and knowledge. As Compudopt’s first educational offering, we began refurbishing used computers, loading them with free educational software, and distributing them to children in underserved communities across the Houston area. Over the past thirteen years, Compudopt has distributed over 48,688+ refurbished computers to young people and added opportunities for students to learn that expand our impact beyond computer distribution to include technology education.

Our partnership with Cook County Digital Equity is driving real change in Illinois. Through the Small Grants IMPACT initiative, our STEAM Team: Art Heist program has:

💡 Improved digital literacy
💻 Expanded technology access
🤝 Strengthened community engagement and relationships

As the program wraps up, these brilliant students are walking away with new tech skills and a free reconditioned laptop computer to keep their digital journey going at home.

Beginning September 1st, Compudopt is holding a Device Donation Drive in Mercedes, TX! Bring your old laptops, desktops, tablets, and phones to one of our drop-off locations:

Thanks to the support of the cookcountydigitalequity Small Grants IMPACT program, local students have spent the summer exploring, coding, and leveraging real-world technology to crack the case of a simulated art heist while building hands-on STEAM skills through our STEAM Team: Art Heist program! 🎨🔍

Our goal this Back-to-School season is to get free, reconditioned computers into the hands of students across the country. That's why we are partnering with companies like AT&T Impact and TC Energy to maximize our reach and impact.
