Also relevant to the Cedar Lake Road post!

"Quick-build isn't second-rate. It's safety delivered now instead of in five years."

I hear this criticism a lot: quick-build treatments look temporary, they're not as good as the real thing, we should wait for permanent infrastructure. But here's the reality. If the permanent curb extension is five years away and someone gets hit in year two, the delay was a choice. Quick-build tack-on curb extensions, painted bulb-outs, and delineator post treatments get real safety improvements in place fast. They're not perfect. But they save lives while the budget catches up. That's not second-rate. That's prioritizing people over process.

Relevant to the Cedar Lake Road post!

Paint on its own does not protect a cyclist. It does not slow a car. But it shows everyone what a different street could feel like. It makes the invisible visible. And once people can see it, they start asking for more.

The newly reconfigured Cedar Lake Road is a marked improvement for people walking & biking! Several enhanced crossings with refuge medians and a double striped AND marked bike lane on the south side will definitely make it more comfortable for active transportation.

Thank you, City of Minnetonka - Local Government! And here's to fully separated bikeways on each side when this segment comes up for full reconstruction in 2046!

For our September Social, we’ll be enjoying a (hopefully) beautiful summer evening at Rosland Park Pavilion in Edina. The Pavilion is first come, first serve, so if it is already in use, we will be nearby instead. Look for the bicycles!

If you’re interested in joining us for a group ride to the park, we will be meeting at 5:15pm at Haggard Barrel in Saint Louis Park. The group ride rolls at 5:30pm. The route will take us down Wooddale Avenue, which was the subject of a recent Edina City Council decision between car parking and protected bicycle lanes.

If you are uncomfortable driving on the same roads as people biking, one of the best solutions you can advocate for is separated bicycle infrastructure so those people bicycling won't have to bike on those roads. Because we guarantee they would prefer to be able to ride safely!

This one's for the people who don't ride.

One of the stated goals of the North Foothills Bikeway, in Boulder County's own words, is "to relieve drivers' stress passing cyclists."

That's it. That's the whole pitch to you.

Nobody enjoys the moment on US 36 where you're doing 55, there's oncoming traffic, and there's a person on a bike three feet off your mirror. Not you. Definitely not them.

Separated paths take that moment off the table. Fewer riders in your lane on 36. Fewer riders in your lane on the Diagonal. Fewer split-second judgment calls at highway speed.

You never have to get on a bike for this to be worth something to you.

Bikes belong in Boulder County, and so does everybody driving through it.

Making the sausage, errr, an improved biking experience ...

Might be ugly now, but will definitely be a nicer biking & walking experience when complete!
