What a wonderful Heart for the Arts event today at our beautiful Aldridge Gardens! It was so gratifying to see co-founder of Hoover Arts Alliance, Linda Chastain, be honored (along with two other amazing and very deserving recipients) for her commitment to championing support for the arts in Hoover for many, many years. It was a beautiful thing to see Mayor Derzis, his wife Stephanie Lansden Derzis, and city council members Robin Shultz and Dr. Casey Middlebrooks, along with Tracy True Dismukes there presenting these awards and showing their commitment to seeing the arts become more of a priority in Hoover. Also, our board member, Sandra Fuller Art, was honored with an innagural award presented in her name to Hoover arts educator Gene Ferreiro. Matina E. Johnson, another treasure in the Hoover arts world, did an amazing job telling Linda's many contributions to our city. The first photo is of current members of the Hoover Arts Alliance board.

We are so grateful for Linda Chastain and all she has meant in championing the arts in Hoover. This honor is well-deserved! We can't wait to celebrate her on Sunday!!

Some people don't just support the arts. They pour their hearts into them. Join the City of Hoover, the Hoover Arts Foundation, and the Hoover Arts Council this Sunday, November 1 at 2pm at Aldridge Gardens, as we continue our 2026 Mayor's Ball, "A Heart for the Arts," and honor three of them: Gene Ferreiro, Sallie White, and Linda Chastain.

The Robin Nance Metz Art Competition (formerly Adult Juried Art Exhibit) is a competition sponsored by the Shelby County Arts Council and its partners. This juried art exhibit is open to all Alabama residents 18 years old and up. Accepted art work categories include: Drawing, Painting, Photography, Sculpture, Printmaking, Fine Art Crafts, Fiber Arts, and Digital Art.
