What happens when the angels see a furbaby in dire need? They join forces and secure a good Samaritan, a dedicated volunteer of an animal rescue organization and a willing foster, perfect for the furbaby. Yup, that is what the angels did for Bootsie nka Dixie. Dixie was taken in by a good Samaritan after Dixie's owner passed away. This good Samaritan subsequently got deployed and had no one to care for Dixie. Our dedicated volunteer became aware of this situation and asked if we could bring her into our rescue due to these extenuating circumstances. Upon her initial vet examination, it was discovered that Dixie has a grade 4 out of 6 heart murmer, beginning stages of catarac, skin and ear infections. Dixie's fosters did not hesitate when they were told of her condition and immediately brought her into their home. It didn't take long for the fosters to realize that Dixie was meant to be theirs forever. The adoption was finalized today, a mere two and a half weeks since she was placed in foster. We join the angles in wishing you all the best that life has to offer.

Long-Term Foster Needed for a Special Needs Senior Chihuahua🙏

We are able to take in a senior blind Chihuahua if we can first secure a long-term foster home.

Ebi is an 11.5 year old, 4 pound white and gray Chihuahua boy. Ebi is completely blind and has a severe heart murmur that requires daily medication.

We are told Ebi is friendly with both people and other animals, as long as he isn't startled. He is potty trained and does well using a doggy door once he learns his surroundings. He also has a halo that can be worn to help him safely navigate a new environment while he adjusts.

Wilson had to go back to Island veterinary Care after he went four days without having a bowel movement. The last time he passed stool on his own was Saturday evening. On Monday, he developed a ruptured a**l gland. Throughout this time, he continued eating normally and never vomited. However, during those four days, he repeatedly tried to defecate without success.

After the a**l gland ruptured, only blood, discharge, and fluid came from both the a**l glands and his a**s. Thankfully, when we brought him in on Thursday, Dr. Yoshioka was able to see him again. Wilson received an e***a, and we were told that a large amount of stool was expelled. We were very relieved to learn that he did not have an intestinal blockage.

Because of his IVDD, it is difficult for Wilson to maintain a squatting position, which likely contributed to his difficulty passing stool. He is scheduled for a recheck in about two weeks. His a**l glands is healing better. Please keep Wilson in your thoughts and prayers for a speedy recovery. We truly appreciate all of your love, support, and prayers🙏

This morning, Wilson's foster noticed blood on his bed and discovered that he had a ruptured a**l gland.

We took him to Island Veterinary Care, where Dr. Yoshioka kindly accepted him as an urgent walk-in. We are incredibly grateful for her support. Wilson received antibiotics and pain medication, and he is scheduled for a recheck in two weeks.

Meet Bootsie, our newest intake furbaby. Bootsie was in a situation where her original owner passed away and because her owner lived alone, no one knew of her passing until a neighbor discovered her and Bootsie. At this point, Bootsie had been living with her expired owner for a week before being discovered. The neighbor posted Bootsie on Next Door and was taken in by a good Samaritan since there was no one to care for her. As it happened, this good Samaritan got deployed and also had no one to care for Bootsie. Our dedicated volunteer became aware of this situation and asked if we could bring her into our rescue due to these extenuating circumstances. Upon her initial vet examination, it was discovered that Bootsie has a grade 4 out of 6 heart murmer, beginning stages of catarac, skin and ear infections. Zane saw an oncologist at VERC yesterday. We were given some encouraging news. Because his affected leg was amputated, he is currently pain free.

Thank you so much for your support. Your generosity has made this possible. Today, Zane is living a happy life on three legs and has adjusted incredibly well.

Hi's journey has not been an easy one. Before he was rescued, he lived with a houseless owner and spent lots of time tied outside a van, as you can see in the photo. Thanks to Aloha Animal Outreach, he was finally rescued and came into our care in 2021. Soon afterward, he was adopted.

Sadly, he was returned to us in August 2025 in very poor condition. It was clear he had been through a difficult time. Many of his teeth were severely diseased, and most had to be extracted. He also struggled with fungal infections in his toenails and ongoing skin issues.

At first, the fracture was misdiagnosed by an emergency veterinarian. Fortunately, a cancellation allowed him to see a specialist much sooner than expected. During that visit, he received the heartbreaking diagnosis of osteosarcoma (OSA), an aggressive bone cancer. Thankfully, his leg was amputated that same day, removing the source of his pain and giving him the best chance to move forward.

Today, Zane is thriving in an amazing foster home. His foster parents have dedicated countless hours to his care, taking him to many veterinary appointments, helping with his recovery, and giving him the love and comfort he deserves. Because of them, Zane is enjoying a wonderful quality of life.

We want to give him the longest, happiest life possible, so we have decided to begin chemotherapy. He has already received his first injectable chemotherapy treatment. Unlike chemotherapy in people, dogs generally experience very few, if any, side effects, and most continue to enjoy their normal daily activities throughout treatment.

Please keep Zane in your thoughts and prayers as he continues this journey. Our hope is that he can enjoy every day to the fullest, surrounded by love.

Update on our sweet old man, Zane🙏

Zane went in for a recheck today at VCA Pearl City, and his stitches were removed. As you can see in the video, he has adapted incredibly well and is adjusting to life with three legs.

The biopsy results finally came back and confirmed that he has osteosarcoma, a type of bone cancer. Our next step is to meet with an oncologist to discuss treatment options and determine the best path forward.

We want to thank all of our supporters who donated to help Zane. Because of your generosity, he was able to undergo his amputation surgery. We are deeply grateful for your support during this journey.

A special thank you to his foster family for caring for him and supporting him through this difficult time. We are incredibly grateful for the love, dedication, and compassion they have shown Zane every step of the way❤️

Our senior boy, Zane has had a very difficult few weeks.

About two weeks ago, he experienced an incident that required an emergency visit to the ER. While at his foster home, he barked at a neighbor's dog, jumped a few inches into the air, landed on a grassy area, and immediately screamed in pain. After that, he stopped putting any weight on his back left leg and held it up completely.

We rushed him to VCA Pearl City that evening. Initially, he was diagnosed with a suspected CCL (cranial cruciate ligament) injury, which is similar to an ACL tear in humans. No broken or fractured bone. Days later, we tried to schedule an appointment with a specialist, Dr. Lam, at VCA Pearl City. Fortunately, we were able to arrange a consultation and possible surgery for the very next day.

After examining Zane, Dr. Lam immediately suspected that he had a broken bone. X-rays confirmed not only a fracture but also bone cancer called osteosarcoma. Unfortunately, osteosarcoma is a very aggressive cancer that often spreads to the lungs. Thankfully, there were no obvious signs of spread to his lungs or other parts of his body at that time based on the X-ray results.

One option was to amputate the affected leg to remove the source of pain and improve his comfort and quality of life. After careful consideration, we chose this option. His leg, along with the tumor, was removed.

We are incredibly grateful that his foster has been eager and committed to helping him recover after surgery. Dr. Lam performed the amputation surgery two days ago. Zane remained hospitalized overnight for monitoring and was discharged yesterday to return to his foster home.

The past two weeks have been especially difficult for him. He spent most of his life living with a homeless person. He was eventually adopted, but after several years he was returned, leaving him in very poor condition. Now he is facing and fighting an aggressive form of cancer.

Zane deserves the best possible life for whatever time he has remaining. We do not know how much time he has left, but we want to give him every opportunity to be comfortable, loved, and cared for.

His surgery cost $5,669.16, and we are asking for your support. If you are able, please consider making a donation to help cover his medical expenses. We are also planning a fundraising event, with dates and locations to be announced soon.

Your support will also help us arrange consultations with an oncologist and explore additional treatment options that may improve his quality of life.

Any amount, no matter how small, is deeply appreciated.

We had a blast at the Pet Expo this past weekend. Thank you to our volunteers for helping to make it a success. We had several alumni come to visit and they looked great. Tessie, fka Barbie and Kuma Ruffy, fka Ruffy were at their best. Bell and her mommy came to volunteer on both days and she was definitely the Bell of the ball.
