1948 Chaney's Riverside, a fishing lodge and inn on the homosassa river. The Riverside Lodge drew anglers from across the country with innovative promotions, including a "guaranteed catch or you don't pay" policy for tarpon fishing.
The original wooden lodge building pictured here was eventually demolished in the 1960s to make way for modernized resort lodging. Today, the property operates as the popular Monkey Island Riverside Resort, maintaining the site's centuries-old legacy of hosting travelers on the Homosassa water. Colorized by Bill Price

1925 wooden bathing and promenade docks at Homosassa Springs Wildlife Park. This exact body of water is the headspring of the Homosassa River. This crystalline pool flows with a constant 72°F (22°C) temperature year-round, making it a natural magnet for visitors since the late 19th century.
Long before it became a public park, Homosassa Springs operated as a popular privately owned rail stop and primitive resort run by the West Coast Development Company. The sprawling wooden boardwalk and docking system pictured here was built across the headspring to allow early train passengers and tourists to stroll directly above the water. Remembering Kevin James Head, who is missed by our Homosassa Community. This guy could always me seen out and about Homosassa. He could be found at MacRaes Bait House which was his favorite hang out or on the Homosassa River. He passed away when he was only 54, on May 25, 2012, after a short battle with cancer.
Kevin graduated from Crystal River High School, and proudly served in the U.S. Navy aboard the USS John F. Kennedy. He worked as a commercial fisherman. The son of James Head & Marilyn Gavin; three sisters, Tracy, Penny and Beth and one brother, Mike. I remember he had a dog which was his constant companion but I don’t remember his name.

Old home thought to be one of the last from the 1920s building boom was revealed with the expansion of U.S. 19 through the business district in Homosassa with the removal of an iconic fruit stand, First Fruits Produce, at the intersection of Homosassa Trail and U.S. 19.
According to the owners, the razing of the fruit stand was primarily due to construction work at the location.
After crews removed the stand’s awning, another gem of the community that recalls a real estate “boom” period was revealed — the old Burges home. They were the caretakers of the Homosassa Pink Hotel that was located where the Homosassa Springs Plaza currently resides..
