Old home thought to be one of the last from the 1920s building boom was revealed with the expansion of U.S. 19 through the business district in Homosassa with the removal of an iconic fruit stand, First Fruits Produce, at the intersection of Homosassa Trail and U.S. 19.
According to the owners, the razing of the fruit stand was primarily due to construction work at the location.
After crews removed the stand’s awning, another gem of the community that recalls a real estate “boom” period was revealed — the old Burges home. They were the caretakers of the Homosassa Pink Hotel that was located where the Homosassa Springs Plaza currently resides..

This was the home of Granny Adkins located on the corner of Yulee Drive and Mason Creek Road, across the street from Homosassa Elementary School behind where Gulf Coast Marine is currently located. Everyone called her Granny Adkins even if she wasn’t your grandmother. Her son was Russel Adkins and he was the postmaster at the log cabin Postoffice that was beside her house.

1900 Homosassa train station.
It was part of the Silver Springs, Ocala and Gulf Railroad (often called the "Mullet Express"). In 1893, the depot served as the terminus of a spur line that extended from Dunnellon through Crystal River to Homosassa. During the year 1900, the depot and its surrounding facilities included: A freight dock and storage shed for local trade goods. A siding for cars to be loaded with cargo like fish, cedar, and citrus.

Remembering Alton Pierce “Seaman” on what would have been his 87th birthday. He came to Homosassa visiting his Uncle and fell in love with Judy Head and the Homosassa Community. He would marry the love of his life, establish businesses Homosassa Shrimp & Homosassa Seafood, raise 3 children (DeeDee, Mandy & Denise) and leave a legacy of Honor, Respect, Goodness and Wisdom.

1763 map shows when British-held Florida was divided into East Florida and West Florida by Royal Proclamation. The dividing line was the Chattahoochee-Apalachicola River. St. Augustine remained the capital of East Florida, while Pensacola became the capital of West Florida.
