MARF has given the sport of auto racing a common ground on which its enthusiasts could join in as volunteers. Our purpose has always been to serve Auto Racing with recognition of accomplishment from within the sport itself. The hopeful result is that the enthusiasm of the MARF members will spread, creating a greater understanding and popularity of auto racing. Most of our involvement and support i
n the past has been in the Stock Car Racing area. Fan Club nights, known as MARF NIGHTS, are currently held Potomac Speedway, Wi******er Speedway and DominionRaceway. Promoter, Denise Hollidge (Potomac) and Steve Britt (Dominion), graciously welcome MARF members who use their membership cards for free or discounted admission on these designated MARF nights. Without the cooperation of the speedways, MARF would not be around today. A sincere THANK YOU to our current and past promoters who help support MARF. These MARF NIGHTS allow the Club the opportunity to increase its membership and to promote various fund raising activities, such as MARF’s Injured Driver’s Fund. The Injured Driver’s Fund is used to help drivers in need due to an illness or accident. Although we cannot alleviate their entire burden, we hope that any contribution donated by MARF will help in a small way. The highlight of MARF NIGHT is the presentation of a trophy to selected division feature winners on the track. The feature winner also has the option of a MARF jacket or a cash bonus if they are a current member. The famous MARF jacket is one such Club award presented in the past to hundreds of drivers on MARF NIGHTS, club members and other contributors to Auto Racing. Each jacket proclaims MARF with an identity that has become a trademark in racing circles everywhere. The Club jacket has changed over the years and has been presented to many greats in the racing world. The jacket presented to Joe Weatherly now hangs in the museum at Darlington, South Carolina. Placed next to it is a plaque, also presented by MARF that explains its significance. MARF usually meets every other month to socialize and discuss club activities. The meeting place alternates between several different locations. All members, and non-members, are invited to each of our monthly meetings to participate in the Club administration. We are constantly seeking new ideas for the promotion of auto racing in our area, and these fresh new ideas come with new people participation. Remember, even if you are not a member, come to a meeting, join in the fun and give us your ideas. MARF holds several yearly activities, such as the annual picnic and softball game. We hold MARF NIGHTS twice a year at each of our participating speedways. The highlight of the Club’s social season is the Annual Awards Banquet for presentation of awards in several categories to honor drivers, mechanics, race
teams, point champions, media, and club members. As a MARF MEMBER, you will receive a quarterly Newsletter. It will inform you what nights are going to be MARF NIGHTS at the local speedways; dates and locations of monthly meetings, and when the Annual Picnic/Softball game is. You will be informed of all upcoming Club activities!! Certainly, the success of MARF, in its quest to promote interest in Auto Racing, depends on the support of a strong membership. The membership is the backbone of our organization, so we strive to keep our membership dues at a reasonable cost. Even if you cannot be someone who participates in the administrative aspects of the Club, your support can come from your annual membership renewals. Your due count heavily toward our success. We feel that everyone with an interest in the sport of Auto Racing (drivers, mechanics, car owners, wives, track promoters, people from the media, from major advertisers of the sport, and like most of us- fans) can benefit from membership in MARF. If you would like to become a member of the Metropolitan Auto Racing Fans Club (MARF), please send us a message on Facebook with your contact information.
