"How would you describe Greenwell Foundation to a friend?"
After spending the day experiencing some of our programs first hand and touring the park, these were some of the answers we received from the St. Mary's Tourism Ambassadors.

Last week, we had the opportunity to introduce several of the ambassadors to our recreational programming, their therapeutic benefits, and the beauty found at Greenwell State Park.

💚 A big thanks to Visit St. Mary's MD for arranging this visit and for all they do to support the tourism industry in St. Mary's County. And a special thanks to the ambassadors for spending the day with us, embracing the adventure, and offering valuable feedback. We hope to see you all back at Greenwell soon!

A big thank you to the American Legion Post 274, Lusby, MD for this generous donation that allows us to continue providing free retreats and other programming for veterans and first responders in our Southern Maryland community, and beyond! Thank you for your continued support!

The Arick L. Lore American Legion Post 274 family, presented a $1,500 check to The Greenwell Foundation on Thursday, July 23. Fundraising Chairs, Justin Thomson and Lisa Dillon and Vice-Commander Jessica Hartmann, presented the check to Maria McDonald, Greenwell Foundation Executive Director, and Chris Davies, Veterans Program Director, to be used towards programs for Veterans and First Responders.

Greenwell Foundation provides experiences for veterans and First Responders through the natural beauty of Greenwell State Park, providing emotional connections through horse experiences, nature hikes, and learning new ways to unwind through yoga. They have hosted groups from McVets, Project Veteran House, local Sheriff’s Departments, and the Veterans Club at The College of Southern Maryland.

The American Legion Post 274 family holds fundraising projects throughout the year, providing donations to many non-profit organizations. Recent programs have included, Operation Care & Comfort, USA Cares, American Chestnut Land Trust, Charlotte Hall Veterans Home, Mr. Peanuts Frozen Chosen and the Solomons Volunteer Fire Department and Rescue Squad.

Camp Sunrise with Hospice of St. Mary's returned to Greenwell again this year, and we are so grateful to be a part of this meaningful program!

Witnessing the campers begin to open up and interact with the horses, try new things, and connect with each other is such a healing experience for all involved and it serves as a wonderful reminder for all of us about the power of hope & connection. The Southern Maryland summer heat is here and our animals want to give everyone a few reminders to stay safe...

🚰 Drink plenty of water throughout the day
🥱Rest and take it easy especially if you are outdoors at all
💦 A few water games with the hose or mud puddles can be fun (but messy) ways to cool down and beat the heat
😎 Stay in the shade and avoid being outside if you can
💙 Check in on your neighbors, family, friends, and animals

ℹ If you need additional help, public Cooling Centers are available, check out St. Mary's County Government page or our story for more information.

Special thanks to our Greenwell team of staff and volunteers who are taking such good care of our animals and helping them stay cool in the heat. 💚 Stay safe everyone!
