Troop 9, BSA

Troop 9, BSA Boy Scout Troop 9
Worcester, MA We provide a minimum of one night of camping each month, and a summer camp experience of seven days and nights each year.

Boy Scout Troop 9 has been established in the Burncoat/Greendale neighborhood of Worcester since 1959, and has provided the Scouting program to more than 2,000 youths ages 11 – 17 in that time span. Our adult volunteers come from all segments of the Worcester community and beyond, and many of them have their roots as Norton Company employees . Our volunteers impart the Scouting values and code of

ethics upon our youth while at the same time teaching them Scouting skills through our program of outdoor camping and high adventure. Our Scouts are also taught the value of helping others, and have performed hundreds of hours of community service for area non- profit organizations as well as environmentally-oriented projects. Recently, our Troop marked its’ 63rd anniversary as an all-boy Troop. Over the course of our history we have been a stable force in the neighborhood, with only six Scoutmasters serving over 62 years cumulatively. Our current adult leadership possesses nearly 180 years of collective Scouting experience, and most of our current adult leadership grew up in the Troop as youth. Thus, our Troop has proven their sustained commitment to the community and we look forward to a long and productive future in the Burncoat/Greendale neighborhood. Boy Scout Troop 9 is preparing to launch its 68th year providing the Scouting program to boys ages 11-17 in the north Worcester area. We are now accepting applications for boys ages 11 - 14 to join the Scouting program, which meets each week at St. George Church Hall on Brattle Street. Why not stop by with a parent some Thursday night this month and see what it’s all about? Anytime between 7:30 - 8:30 PM would be ideal.

Troop 9 is pleased and excited to announce our new chartered partnership with St. George Roman Catholic Church in Worcester! With the unfortunate closing of St. Christopher Parish, our Boy Scouts found themselves in search of a new home. Thanks to the benevolence of Fr. Jonathan Slavinskas, who gave us his blessing to seek out opportunities to remain a north Worcester Scouting unit as we have since our birth in 1959, we were welcomed home by Fr. Edward Niccolls to St. George Parish! Fun fact that is very appropriate…St. George is the patron saint of Scouting in the Catholic faith!
As we begin the latest chapter in our adventurous 67-year journey, we extend our deepest gratitude to Fr. Stanley Krutcik and the parishioners of St. Christopher parish. They stepped up on the heels of the trying times coming out of the COVID pandemic to enable our boys to continue Scouting for the past 5 years, and we thank them for being angels on our shoulders during a time of uncertainty. We would not be a Troop today were it not for the people of St. Christopher’s.
So on we travel, as we say, “Been There, Done That”.
