🎉 Celebrating 50 Years of IDEA! 🎉

On June 3, 2026, the Massachusetts Department of Public Health (DPH) and the Massachusetts Early Intervention Consortium (MEIC) gathered at the Massachusetts State House to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA). 💙

Members of The Arc of the South Shore team were proud and excited to be part of this special event, which brought together children, families, Early Intervention providers, MEIC board members, the DPH Early Intervention Division, State Representatives, and advocates from across the Commonwealth. Together, we celebrated five decades of progress, inclusion, and opportunity for children and families. 🌟👏

Here's to continuing the important work of supporting every child’s growth, development, and success! 💛

The Whippoorwill Chorus recently stopped by our Day Habilitation program to share their beautiful voices and spend time with our clients. The room was filled with music, smiles, and joy as everyone enjoyed singing along together. 🎵😊

As an extra special surprise, the chorus treated us to a heartfelt rendition of "Happy Birthday" in honor of The Arc of the South Shore's 75th anniversary! 🎂🎉

This year, we are proud to celebrate 75 years of serving individuals and families throughout the South Shore community. We are so grateful to the Whippoorwill Chorus for helping us mark this milestone with their wonderful performance and warm wishes. 💙

We have some fantastic upcoming events designed to foster connection, creativity, and community, and you won't want to miss them!

🧩 On June 23, we're launching our brand-new LEGO Social Builders program, an autism-friendly LEGO experience for autistic adults. Participants will have the opportunity to build creativity, confidence, friendships, and community in a welcoming, supportive, and sensory-friendly environment. 💙✨

🎬 Then on June 25, join us for a Sensory Friendly Movie at the Cameo Theater! Enjoy a relaxed movie-going experience with softer lighting, lower sound levels, and a judgment-free atmosphere where there's no pressure to sit still or stay quiet. 🍿😊

These events are all about creating inclusive spaces where everyone can feel comfortable, connected, and celebrated.

Last week, we proudly hosted a Legislative Luncheon at our Hingham administrative office, bringing together state senators, local legislators, community partners, and supporters to celebrate a remarkable milestone. 🎉

We were deeply honored to receive multiple recognitions commemorating 75 years of dedicated service to the South Shore community, supporting individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD) and autism. 💙 Guests also shared their wishes for our 75th anniversary year, filling the room with messages of hope, inclusion, opportunity, and continued impact. Their words remind us why this milestone is so meaningful and inspire us for the journey ahead. 💙✨
