🌟Grant Recipient Spotlight: Timmy Mathisen🌟 Timmy, a young veteran who recently completed his EMT training and aspired to become a firefighter, suffered a life-changing spinal cord injury last summer. As he navigates the long road to recovery, he’s faced considerable challenges—moving between hospitals and rehabilitation facilities in search of treatments that will help restore his independence.

Despite the challenges he’s faced, he is determined to focus on progress and seeking control over his future and refusing to let the injury define him. Since childhood, Timmy has shown leadership and compassion, notably supporting a classmate with autism, which earned him respect among peers. An accomplished athlete in multiple sports, Timmy led by example, excelling without fanfare. He continues to enjoy golf, time with his dog Blue, and following sports—especially college and pro football—often engaging in discussions about games, statistics, and fantasy leagues.

Timmy’s family is working hard to make their home a place where Timmy can thrive. Extensive renovations are underway to create a space that accommodates his needs, but the cost is significant. Looking ahead, they’re hopeful Timmy can start specialized rehab as soon as January. This would include intensive, progressive therapy tailored for spinal cord injuries. Timmy has a long journey ahead and is appreciative of the financial support from the T-Bird Foundation that will help him achieve his treatment goals and regain his independence.

🌟 Grant Recipient Spotlight: Jake Bonney 🌟

Prior to his injury, Jake was employed as an engineer on research vessels at sea. He greatly valued his professional experiences and the camaraderie inherent in shipboard life. Additionally, he enjoyed spending time on the water with family and friends—engaging in activities such as sailing, fishing, clamming, swimming, or relaxing by the beach. Jake and his fiancé shared a passion for travel; she frequently joined him after assignments, and together they would explore new locations. He also grew up skiing during the winter months, and was instructing the sport on the weekend that his injury occurred.

Currently, Jake remains committed to maximizing his recovery potential. He has made significant progress in core strength and balance, improved blood pressure stability, and has recently observed some activation in his leg muscles. Jake attends Journey Forward regularly and has increased his sessions to three times per week.

We’re so honored to support Jake through our Spinal Cord Injury (SCI) Grant Program, and we can’t wait to see where his journey takes him next. 💙

2025 has been our most impactful year to date, giving out 5 grants and over $35k. T-Bird foundation is more committed than ever to providing financial assistance for spinal cord injury rehabilitation that is so crucial for patients to maintain strength and recover as much mobility as possible. This rehabilitation provides not only physical benefits but mental benefits as well. This , please consider donating! We’ll be hosting our next fashion and styling event at Evereve Derby Street Hingham, MA.

Event Details: Sunday, November 9th, 10a - 2p (or shop all day up until 6p). 15% of sales are donated directly to the foundation. Evereve has great pieces in for fall including lots of new denim, dresses, fun tops, holiday outfits and more. Get styled by Hingham’s best and not only get new pieces but learn how to wear them and mix and match to make lots of new outfits. Time to cozy up for fall and get styled for the upcoming holidays and work events! 🍁💃🏼🪩💼🎉
