Hill County Kids

Hill County Kids Feeding hungry Hill County kids, one child at a time. We send home "snack packs" with kids to help assure they have enough food to eat on the weekends.

The kids are selected with the help of the school counselors. Our story began in 2010 when we were made aware that many children in Hillsboro schools were not receiving sufficient food on the weekends, when school meals are not available. After some research it was determined that 80-83% of Hillsboro's school children relied on the Reduced or Free Lunch Program in 2010. Our founders decided to do

something to help those children. They put together a "kid friendly" menu that could be distributed at a reasonable cost to the organization. Then they had to receive the approval of the Superintendent. School Counselors helped identify the kids that might be in need of food. The "snack packs" were then delivered to the school, to be distributed by the Counselors to the students. We are not allowed to know which children are on the list, so our volunteers drop off the food bags at the schools and the Counselors distribute the bags. On our first delivery date in February 2011 we delivered 36 bags. Our first delivery in the 2021-2022 school year included 246 bags. That's 246 children that were assured of having enough food for the weekend. This program is funded completely from donations and grants. We need more volunteers to help bag the food. You or your organization can volunteer for once a month, and it takes less than an hour to bag the food items. We are also in need of volunteers to pick up the food on Friday mornings and deliver to the schools. We hope that in the near future we can expand the program to include other parts of Hill County. We need your help to make this happen. At this time, Church on the Hill is donating space in their building for our storage and operations, but our goal is to have our own building soon. You can message us via Facebook with your questions and contact information. We will get back to you as soon as we can.

Hill County Kids had a wonderful day at the Hillsboro ChurroFest!

Thank you to everyone who stopped by our booth, shared a smile, or supported our mission. We handed out bags of toys and candies to children, shared brochures and snacks with adults, and received several generous donations that will go directly toward feeding students across Hill County.

A very special Thank You to Brandy Adkins, Karen Bush, Phylliss Griffin‑Jones, and Thom hanson for your time, energy, and heart. Your dedication made today a success, and our community is stronger because of you.

Hill County Kids is grateful for every act of kindness that helps us continue ensuring children have food they can count on each weekend.
