Mission accomplished: The Black Creek has been decluttered. Marie Kondo would be proud. Thanks to the volunteers that helped spark joy (and remove trash and blockage-branches).

Please note that branch removal was minimal to keep the integrity of the natural space - we just removed enough so that paddlers can get through and around.

Our next mission: Water chestnut removal in the Chodikee Lake. Volunteer opportunity June 27. Meet at the lake dock at 9:30am. ECC members will provide instruction on what to pull and where. More info coming soon.

Tonight we were pleased to present the Environmental Stewardship Award to Nancy Hammond, a longtime ECC member. She joined the board after years of service as a town board liaison to the ECC. She is best known for sharing her wisdom and historical context to some us "newbies" who haven't lived in highland for decades! We are eternally grateful for her years of participation and knowledge and while we will miss Nancy at our regular meetings, we wish her ALL the best.

Paddling season has begun, and for those of you venturing out onto the Black Creek and other local paddling destinations, consider registering for the Clearwater paddling challenge. It offers three different distances, 20, 50, or 100 miles and runs Memorial Day weekend (May 24) through Labor Day (September 7). And if you've not been to the Route 299 launch since October 2024, the new kiosk is thanks to Eagle Scout Taso Bakatsias!

Paddle for Our Hudson is Hudson River Sloop Clearwater's annual paddling challenge and fundraiser where paddlers compete against each other and themselves to log miles to raise awareness and funds to support Clearwater's mission to protect the Hudson River and steward the next generation
