Congratulations to Dana Hines, the first-ever recipient of the Bonnie Jo Tebo Nursing Scholarship! Dana was personally selected by the Tebo family to receive this 9,000 dollar award through the Hibbing College Foundation.
This special scholarship supports future healthcare workers at Minnesota North College – Hibbing Campus who have personally battled cancer or cared for a loved one facing the disease. The fund honors the incredible legacy of Bonnie Jo Tebo, who passed away in February 2025 after a 26-year battle with breast cancer. Diagnosed at just 32 years old, Bonnie refused to let cancer define her. Instead, she became a sister, mother, grandmother, daughter, nurse, and a fierce fighter—a true hero. Determined to turn her experience into purpose, Bonnie graduated with her nursing degree from the Hibbing campus in 2008. Her journey gave her a depth of empathy, quiet strength, and fierce determination that no textbook could teach.
Bonnie’s daughter, Britni Koschak, shared why Dana was chosen to carry on this legacy: We chose Dana because of her personal connection to cancer and the compassion it has inspired in her desire to care for others. I truly believe she will use her nursing degree to make a meaningful impact in the lives of her patients and communities, just as my mother did throughout her life. Please join us in celebrating Dana as she steps into the nursing profession with this deeply personal perspective on patient care!
