For our faithful church workers, the greatest forms of encouragement — and the most heartfelt displays of appreciation — come from the very people God has called them to serve. With the help of congregations across the country, we have compiled a list of church worker appreciation ideas that we hope will spur each congregation to recognize its own called workers in at least one new way. Oct. 11 is Pastor Appreciation. Oct. 25 is Deaconess, Director of Family Life Ministry, Director of Christian Outreach, and Director of Church Ministries Appreciation.

Called Home to Glory

Zion member Barbara Jo Karr went home to be with the Lord on September 24, 2026. Please keep Barbara's family and friends in your prayers as they go through this difficult time.

Barbara Jo Karr, 76, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, died Thursday, September 24, 2026. She was born on December 5,1949, the daughter of the late Roy and Joyce (Franzenburg) Vargason.

In accordance with her wishes, she was cremated.

There will be a private graveside service at 11:00 am Thursday, October 1, 2026 at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery.

“Blessed are the dead who die in the Lord from now on. Blessed indeed that they may rest from their labors, for their deeds follow them!” Revelation 14:13 (ESV)

Zion was blessed with a baptism this morning during the Divine Service. Baby Raelynn was welcomed into God’s family through the waters of Holy Baptism.
