🌟 Project Close Out 🌟

With Spring right around the corner, bringing new beginnings, EWB-NOVA is closing out our most recent domestic project serving the

We helped this NOVA non-profit submit a special exemption application to have the site for their new wildlife rehabilitation center rezoned by Caroline County, VA, so they will be ready to open for business in summer 2026!

We want to extend a special thank you to Reston office for pitching in free surveying services and lending us their staff to support this project. We truly could not have pulled it off without their help!

Thanks very much to Beth Axelrod, WRL President, and Philip Church, WRL Secretary, for their collaboration and bright spirits throughout this project. Their dedication to animal welfare is an inspiring example our team won't soon forget!

Several chapter members volunteered for this project, lending their expertise, engineering skills, and good spirits to make this a success!

Dan Johnson PE served as the Responsible Engineer In Charge (REIC)

Tessa Roscoe led the team as Project Manager, and

Ethan Pacifico, Niqui Lacquement, and Ryan Blazauskas were powerhouse technical team engineers!

This project proved that nonprofits are more powerful through partnership, and we loved lending a hand to another NOVA organization to help make our community safer, healthier, and cuter 🦌 for all creatures, great and small!

🎉 Member Spotlight: Welcome to EWB-NOVA! 🎉

We are ecstatic to welcome Eva to the EWB-Northern Virginia Professional Chapter! Eva is immediately making a positive impact, supporting both our crucial fundraising initiatives and the Malawi project.

Eva's EWB journey is inspiring! She first joined  in 2020, where she served as both Chapter President and Global Relations & International Design (GRID) Lead! She was drawn to for its unique focus on helping people while allowing her to learn new skills alongside passionate engineers from around the world.

Her impressive educational background includes:
🔦 Drexel University: BS & MS in Biomedical Engineering (Tissue Engineering, Pediatric Engineering), Minor in Spanish

🔦 George Washington University: PhD in Systems Engineering (in progress!)

Beyond engineering, Eva is an enthusiast for life and fun. She loves Spikeball, hiking (especially when the weather cools off), discovering new music, traveling, and trying new foods. Did you know she's also an accomplished violinist, playing since age 5?!

Look for her at the German Christmas Market in Philadelphia this holiday season—a favorite tradition!

We are so fortunate to have Eva's dedication and enthusiasm on our team. Please join us in giving her a warm EWB-NOVA welcome!

🚨We're bidding a fond farewell to summer and rolling into autumn with a spotlight on the amazing Sali Kedir🚨 a dedicated volunteer and Travel Team member for EWB-NOVA!

Sali is an integral part of the Malawi–Kaseye project. In April 2025, she traveled to Malawi with our team, bringing a wealth of experience from her previous roles with EWB-Hampton Roads and CECorps. She's held numerous leadership positions, from Secretary to President, and even served as a project lead and mentor for the .odu student chapter.

Outside of her exemplary engineering work, Sali is passionate about travel and loves learning about new cultures through food and history! We enviously watched her travel to Italy this summer and make her own pizza in Naples 🍕

When asked about her experience with EWB-NOVA, Sali shared, "Feeling incredibly grateful to be part of the EWB-NOVA team! It’s inspiring to meet such amazing human beings—people who are dedicated to something bigger than themselves and passionate about making a real impact in the world. Honored to be part of this journey and this amazing team."

We're inspired by you too, Sali! We're so grateful to have your leadership and expertise on the team!
