BSA Troop 913 Boy Scout Troop based in Herndon VA, serving boys aged 11 to 18 in the Herndon VA, Oak Hill VA, Reston VA and Sterling VA communities for over 25 years.

Chartered to St Joseph Church, we serve youth from all backgrounds and area middle and high schools.

Troop 913 recently visited Central Pennsylvania for our May Outing and hiked the Appalachian and Sunset Rocks Trails. The 8 mile hike with over 1000 feet of total elevation gain led the Scouts on the AT outside of Virginia for the first time and over the rock scramble at Sunset Rocks.

The Troop camped at the expansive Unami site at Camp Tuckahoe - New Birth of Freedom Council as their base for the weekend. The 3 fire pits at the site gave the Scouts plenty of room for cooking their dutch oven meals.

recently visited Harpers Ferry Adventure Center for a weekend of riverside camping and ropes course exploration. The weather cooperated for the morning ropes and then even the rainy afternoon didn’t keep the Scouts from exploring the river bank and trying some impromptu fishing.

Herndon's Troop 913 attended Winter Camp last weekend at Camp T. Brady Saunders. Scouts learnt about keeping warm while being outdoors and tent camping in January and also how to cook meals on stoves, in dutch ovens and even over an open fire. They even had 5(!) dutch ovens going at once.

In among the outdoor living, they found time to earn 30+ merit badge and continue their Trail to Eagle. They learnt about everything from Citizenship and First Aid to Astronomy and Space Exploration and from Leatherwork to Robotics. One scout even earned one of the newest merit badges: Cybersecurity!

Thanks to the Heart of Virginia Council, Scouting America for putting on a wonderful weekend.

This past weekend, Scouts of BSA Troop 913 visited Bears Den Trail Center for a weekend of camping and hiking on the and cooked lunch alongside Spout Run.

In addition to experiencing the of the outing, the contingent of both experienced and new campers completed requirements for Cooking, Camping and Communications as well as several rank requirements.

Scouts also led an interfaith service and demonstrated respect for the by retiring worn out flags by observing 4 USC Chapter 1 §8 (k): "The flag, when it is in such condition that it is no longer a fitting emblem for display, should be destroyed in a dignified way, preferably by burning."
