CompassionWorks International

CompassionWorks International Act for All Animals. And, like you, we envision a day when all animals are free to live their lives free from unnecessary harm and suffering. Who are we?

At CompassionWorks International, we believe....

...in kindness, respect, unity, dialogue, community, commitment, strategic action, one world for all beings, neighbors talking to neighbors, and friends sharing with friends. But change for animals will not happen unassisted. The animals enslaved by the entertainment industry, used for medical testing, and slaughtered for their fur, skins, and fle

sh need our collective voice. They are counting on us to speak loudly, clearly, and effectively on their behalf--to let the world know that they are sentient beings with families, feelings, and a right to freedom. At CWI, we provide the assistance needed to bring hope to animals. We believe that by implementing professional, strategic actions within our communities, every one of us can be a beacon of light that spreads awareness about the pain and suffering that occurs inside the tanks, under the big tops, within the racetracks, and behind the shuttered doors of factory farms and medical testing facilities. We are you. And our goal is to help you do your good work better. If you are ready to be a voice for animals, join us!

The Alaska Zoo is not accredited by the Association of Zoos & Aquariums. While no animal belongs in a zoo, the AZA maintains some standards that zoos must uphold. The Alaska Zoo opts not to participate in that program.

A male brown bear attacked a smaller female bear at the Alaska Zoo in Anchorage on June 13, causing panic among visitors. The zoo issued a statement about the incident on June 15 after footage of the altercation went viral.

Great news!

Within days of the death of a NYC carriage horse, Philadelphia has passed a ban on horse carriages.
Philly’s last carriage company closed operations in 2023, but advocates have pushed for a law that would make sure the practice never returns.
Animal rights advocates also pushed for an amendment that would ban both commercial and non-commercial horse-drawn carriages before voting. The amendment passed unanimously.

Rest peacefully, Deniz.

Deniz was a 16-year-old horse exploited to pull carriages for the sake of tourist entertainment downtown New York City. This beautiful horse collapsed and died yesterday while pulling a carriage in Central Park.

We support Ryder's Law, important, compassionate proposed legislation would phase out horse-drawn carriages in New York City and relocate horses to sanctuaries, while offering training to the drivers to find other work.
