Meet Jason Smith, a Seminole State College of Florida nursing student whose passion for healthcare extends well beyond the classroom!

From researching neurodegenerative diseases at the University at Albany to exploring immunology and public health, Jason brings a wide range of interests and experiences to his nursing studies.

With support from the Florida Blue Nursing and Allied Health Scholarship, he's working toward a career focused on helping others and addressing gaps in health care, particularly in underserved communities.

Jason hopes to become a certified registered nurse anesthetist or continue his work in public health and immunology.

We're proud to be part of Jason's journey and excited to see where his passion for health care takes him!

Meet Chad Jones!

As an architect and educator, Chad has spent much of his career creating spaces where students can learn, develop their talents and discover what they're capable of achieving.

Now, as a member of the Foundation for Seminole State College Board, he's extending that commitment by supporting the students and programs that shape Central Florida's future.

Chad shares his Why:

“I support Seminole State College because I believe strongly in the role education plays in creating opportunity right here in Central Florida. Seminole State serves students from across our community, meeting them wherever they are in their educational journey, and helping them build a pathway toward a meaningful career and a better future.”

For Chad, service is also about the responsibility to give back.

A wonderful send-off for Dr. John Gyllin!

Family, friends, colleagues and community partners gathered to celebrate John’s 15 years of leadership at the Foundation for Seminole State College and to wish him well as he begins his next chapter as CEO of Leadership Florida.

Throughout the evening, speaker after speaker returned to the same words to describe John: Friend to all. Humble. Selfless. Jolly (of course!) They spoke of a leader who always finds a way to say yes and who consistently stepped up to the plate for Seminole State College of Florida.

In his usual way, John was quick to turn the appreciation toward the donors, community partners and friends whose generosity and commitment have helped the Foundation grow and create more opportunities for Seminole State students.

“Every success we have celebrated over the past 15 years has been a shared success,” John reminded the crowd. “Thanks to you all, there is a strong foundation in place for the future success in fundraising for Seminole State.”

John, we're grateful for your leadership, your friendship and your unwavering commitment to creating opportunities for students. We can't wait to see what you accomplish at Leadership Florida!

A well-deserved honor for a champion of Seminole State!

Dr. John Gyllin recently presented Mike Morgan, past Foundation board chair and vice president of Comprehensive Energy Services (CES), with the Barbara Miller Chairperson Award at the CES Golf Tournament.

Originally announced at our Celebration of Giving, the award recognizes Mike's outstanding leadership, dedication and service to the Foundation and Seminole State College of Florida students.

Joining Mike for the special presentation were his mother, Shelly Morgan, and fellow Foundation board member Dominic Gundacker.

Congratulations, Mike, and thank you for your continued commitment to student success!

What does the impact of giving look like? At our Celebration of Giving, it was all around us.

Donors, alumni, community partners and friends joined us to mark a record-breaking year for the Foundation and recognize the people and partnerships that continue to make a difference for Seminole State College of Florida and our students. We were also pleased to welcome Florida College System Chancellor Kathy Hebda as part of the evening’s celebration.

Guests got their first look at the newly transformed George and Gretchen Smith Center for Workforce Trades, touring hands-on learning spaces where students are building skills for careers in plumbing, HVAC, electrical, welding, carpentry and other high-demand trades.

A $2 million gift from the Wharton-Smith Foundation helped launch the transformation, with additional donors and industry partners stepping forward to support classrooms, labs and other spaces throughout the Center.

The evening recognized the Seminole State College of Florida - Alumni Association's 2026 Alumni Legacy Award recipients, while the Foundation honored Mike Morgan with the Barbara Miller Chairperson Award and Heart of Florida United Way as our Champion of Philanthropy.

Thank you to everyone who joined us — and to the donors, alumni and community partners whose continued support creates opportunities for Seminole State students.
