The Arc of Central Plains Thrift Shop

The Arc of Central Plains Thrift Shop Funding source for Hays area Special Olympics and other activities and resources for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Some are:

As a means to provide funding for The Arc of Central Plains, the Thrift Shop began operation in 1969 with 4 volunteers and a weekly sale. Today the Thrift Shop is open 6 days a week, is operated by 40 volunteers, and continues as the primary financial support of the organization. Bernita Hammerschmidt, one of the original volunteers still volunteers weekly. The Thrift Shop is run completely by vol

unteers with each day having their own lead volunteer who is responsible for the crew for that day. Most volunteer one day a week, but we do have some individuals who volunteer 2 days a week and others who volunteer 1/2 a day or every other week. Everything that is sold at the Thrift Shop comes from donations from the community, including individual donations and donations from stores with left over sale or closeout items. Without the volunteer and the community support of the Thrift

Donations always welcome during business hours. Items we can use include clothing, small furniture, small appliances, books, linens, blankets, shoes, knick-knacks, dishes, & misc. To schedule after hours drop-off call 785-628-6512 or 650-7338. Donations are tax deductable, ask for a form. To schedule Pick-up service call 785-628-6512 or 650-7338. Proceeds benefit the programs and services of The Arc of Central Plains, a local Chapter of The Arc of the United States and a local program of Special Olympics. The Arc of Central Plains works with other local organizations and agencies that refer individuals to the Thrift Shop. Kansas Works—for interview clothes or work clothes, First Call for Help—for warm clothes or for individuals who need more clothes and/or household items, and misc. items. Hays Medical—for an individual who did not have time to pack before heading to hospital with a loved one and does not have funds to buy several new outfits. Ellis County Red Cross—for individuals who have suffered the loss of their home due to fire or natural disaster.

✨ Celebrating Our 60th Anniversary ✨

This Father's Day weekend, we celebrate the dads who are always there when we need them most.

From offering encouragement when life gets tough, providing a shoulder to lean on, sharing wisdom from experience, or simply helping us find the right channel on the TV, dads play a special role in our lives.

Their sacrifices, hard work, and determination to create a better future for their children have made The Arc of Central Plains possible. We are grateful for the fathers, grandfathers, stepfathers, and father figures who lead with love, strength, and unwavering support.

Happy Father's Day to all the amazing dads out there. Thank you for everything you do. 💙

✨ Celebrating Our 60th Anniversary ✨

You may have noticed our postcard in your mailbox recently. 📬

While we're proud of how far we've come, we're even more excited about where we're headed.

As demand for our services continues to grow, we've reached a pivotal moment in our journey. To continue providing strength, support, and meaningful impact for years to come, we must take the next step forward...expanding to meet the needs of our community.

This expansion will allow us to create more space, serve more customers, accept more donations, and increase the positive impact we make every day.

If you haven't had a chance to read the postcard yet, take a moment to learn more about our vision for growth and the difference this project will make. Every donation, share, and word of encouragement brings us one step closer to making this vision a reality.

Thank you for being part of our story and for helping us build a stronger future, together. 💛

🧠 Learning Disabilities Week 🧠

This week, we're celebrating the unique strengths, talents, and perspectives of individuals with learning disabilities.

Learning disabilities are not a measure of intelligence or potential, they just mean that people learn differently. When we embrace diverse ways of thinking and learning, we create more inclusive schools, workplaces, and communities where everyone has the opportunity to succeed!

Let's continue to raise awareness, challenge misconceptions, and support individuals with learning disabilities in reaching ALL their goals. Together, we can build a world that recognizes and values every learner's abilities. 💛
