👷‍♀️✨ Today, on International Women in Engineering Day, we celebrate the women who are designing, building, innovating and leading across our industry.

From the jobsite to the boardroom, women engineers continue to drive progress, solve complex challenges and strengthen the future of the geotechnical profession.

At DFI, we're proud to support that progress through WiDF (Women in Deep Foundations)—a community dedicated to connecting, mentoring and empowering women and men at every stage of their careers.

Whether you're a student exploring the industry, an emerging professional or a seasoned leader, provides opportunities to learn, grow, and build meaningful connections.

đź’¬ We'd love to hear from you: What advice would you give to the next generation of women entering engineering and construction?

🌊 Mission Rock, a new waterfront neighborhood in San Francisco, consists of high-rise buildings, a waterfront park, and new public streets and infrastructure. However, the site is located along the San Francisco Bay and was originally below water in a shallow bay, which was reclaimed more than 100 years ago. Meanwhile, the future sea level is predicted to rise as much as 66 in (1.8 m) by the year 2100, which would submerge the site during a high tide.

Lori Simpson and Scott Walker of Langan Engineering and Environmental Services share the lightweight cellular concrete fill solution chosen for the project, and the journey to its approval.

🌊 The Port of Rotterdam is the largest port in Europe, playing an important role for transporting goods and offshore energy production in the North Sea. While new quay walls are still being constructed to keep up with persistent growth in global trade, the focus has shifted to their maintenance, rehabilitation and adaptation — especially since many quay walls perform well even after the end of their design lifetime.

Kevin Duffy, University College Dublin; Ken Gavin, TU Delft and InGEO; Fengwen Lai, Fuzhou University; and Ozan Alver, Delft University of Technology share the field monitoring and research that has been performed at the port in the May/June issue of magazine.

Construction at The Battery in New York is part of a series of projects that make up the Lower Manhattan Coastal Resilience initiative and includes both climate mitigation and climate adaptation practices. The project is reconstructing part of the aging and failing wharf originally constructed in the mid-1940s with a new elevated concrete wharf that provides upland park protection from future sea level rise scenarios in year 2100.

Domenic D’Argenzio and Leszek Czajkowski of Mueser Rutledge Consulting Engineers explain the project’s design and construction in the May/June issue of magazine.
