๐Ÿ’› Senior Special Needs Lily is Still Fighting, Still Purring, Still Loved ๐Ÿ’›

Lily's journey continues through kidney disease, dental disease, incontinence, stones, and the unwavering love of her foster family.

When Lily first came to us, she had already lost so much. This sweet senior girl with Cerebellar Hypoplasia (CH) was nearly euthanized after losing her home when her owner entered assisted living. At the time, she had been living at a vetโ€™s office with limited medical care, suffering silently from kidney stones and a urinary tract infection, as well as dental disease.

Thankfully, due to a chance encounter with one of our volunteers visiting the office, Lily was given a second chance.

Today, Lily is loved in foster care, but she continues to face one medical challenge after another.

Since her rescue, Lily has undergone a dental procedure to address painful dental disease. She has been battling early kidney disease and is now struggling with painful stones that have caused recurrent urinary issues and bloody urine. The past several months have meant countless veterinary visits, diagnostics, medications, and ongoing monitoring as we work to keep her comfortable. โค๏ธ

โค๏ธ To show your love to Lily, please consider a donation towards her medical care at apathwaytohope.org/donate.

Despite it all, Lily is a gentle, affectionate little soul who purrs for attention and melts hearts wherever she goes. Her foster family has been absolutely incredible, patiently caring for her through accidents, medications, and difficult days. Because of Lily's wobbly CH and the discomfort caused by her urinary issues, using the litter box isn't always easy, yet her foster continues to meet every challenge with love and compassion.

Some animals need rescue once.

Others, like Lily, need rescue every single day.

We're committed to giving this special girl the comfort, medical care, and dignity she deserves. Please keep Lily in your thoughts as she continues her journey, and thank you for helping us be there for animals whose needs don't end after they're saved. ๐Ÿ’›

Please visit apathwaytohope.org to apply to adopt, or to support, Lily.

๐Ÿ’” Run Free, Sweet Noelle ๐Ÿ’”

It is with shattered hearts that we share our sweet Noelle has crossed the Rainbow Bridge.

Many of you have followed Noelle's pathway to hope. You let her touch your heart, celebrated her victories, supported her care, prayed through her treatments, and sent her so much love. Today, we mourn alongside the family who loved her most.

This message was shared by Noelle's foster mom:

"Today I had to put Noelle down. I can't even breathe or comprehend this, but she is at peace.

Yesterday morning was our normal routine. She went outside and made sure to put Jerry in his place. I wiped her nose a few times, and everything seemed normal. I had stepped out, and my husband was home cleaning the kitchen when she suddenly collapsed. Her head tilted back, and her tongue was out. He called me, and I flew home and rushed her to the emergency hospital. We thought maybe she had suffered a seizure.

They took her right back, examined her, and felt that the tumor may have been affecting her brain and that there was no chance of recovery. They felt she was suffering.

Needless to say, I'm so heartbroken and devastated. A few weeks ago, we celebrated the news that her scans showed no recurrence in her lungs. We thought she had finally caught a break. At the same time, we learned that she had a tumor in her nasal cavity that was pushing against her palate, but we remained hopeful and cherished every day we had with her.

Now I'm left without my best friend, who followed me everywhere and who always made sure everyone knew she was serious about her lamb chops.

I'm going to miss her like crazy."

Noelle came to us covered in mammary tumors with an uncertain future. Yet somehow, through it all, she remained joyful, loved, and was determined to live. She bounced back from surgery and treatment with grace and courage, all while stealing hearts everywhere she went.

Most importantly, Noelle got something every dog deserves before her time came: a family. A family who adored her beyond measure. A family who spoiled her, advocated for her, celebrated every good day, and stood beside her through the tough days. She knew what it felt like to be cherished and had everything she needed to move peacefully on from this world.

To everyone who donated, shared her story, sent prayers, rooted for her, loved her, and followed her journey, thank you. Because of you, Noelle's final chapter was filled with hope.

We know many of you looked forward to her updates as much as we did. We will miss her sweet face, her spunky personality, her determination, and all of the stories that made us smile.

You were so loved Noelle, and you will be missed.

Run free now, beautiful girl. ๐ŸŒˆ๐Ÿพ

๐Ÿ’” In honor of Phoenix โ€“ Sometimes Love Means Letting Go ๐ŸŒˆ

Rescue is hard. Phoenix was one of those special spirits we had for such a short time, but she made a huge impact โ€“ purring until her last breath in our incredible rescuers arms.

Our volunteer, Cherie, was driving home from vacation and heard about a kitten who had been trapped and suffering in a window well for over 24 hours (at least). The homeowner didnโ€™t alert neighbors until at least a day later, and thankfully they sprung to action. Cherie rushed Phoenix to VEG Paramus without hesitation.

Cherie named her Phoenix because we hoped her story would have a different ending.
What the veterinary team found was devastating.

Phoenix had severe damage to her hind end, tissue loss, infection, maggots in her wounds, and a large opening leading directly into her intestinal tract. The damage was too extensive to repair, and there is no surgery that can give her the future she deserves. The only thing we could do for Phoenix tonight was give her peace โ€“ as hard as that decision was.

๐Ÿ’” The hardest part? Watch this video.

You'll see a kitten who is bright. A kitten who is eating. A kitten who is purring and leaning into affection. A kitten who should have had so much more time.

Despite unimaginable pain and suffering, Phoenix remained sweet, trusting, and full of love. Her spirit was there, but her body couldnโ€™t be saved.

Tonight, Phoenix was surrounded by love โ€“ Cherie, Katie (the kind neighbor who helped) and the incredible medical team at VEG showed her only love.

We wish this story ended differently, but sometimes hope means loving enough to let them go.

Thank you for helping to say yes, even when the outcome isn't the one we desperately wanted. Because of your support, Phoenix is at peace. ๐Ÿพโค๏ธ

If you would like to make a donation in honor of Phoenix, to help our other kitties who have been fighting with the same incredible spirit, please visit apathwaytohope.org.

Run free, sweet Phoenix. Until we meet again, over the rainbow bridge. ๐ŸŒˆ

๐Ÿ’” Yesterday we lost Tinos. Tonight, we are still fighting for Rhea. ๐Ÿ’”

Little Rhea remains hospitalized tonight after being diagnosed with pneumonia.

She is currently receiving oxygen therapy, fluids, medications, and supportive care. She is bright and alert, but is not eating well on her own and is being syringe fed by her medical team. Repeat x-rays were performed today, and we are still awaiting the radiologistโ€™s report.

Just yesterday, we lost Rheaโ€™s brother, Tinos, despite repeated veterinary visits, medications, diagnostic testing, and emergency care. A necropsy is underway in hopes of finding answers that could help protect the rest of the family.

In less than 48 hours, medical expenses for Shammi and her kittens have already exceeded $7,000, and we have now received an additional estimate of nearly $3,000 for Rheaโ€™s continued hospitalization and treatment.

We are doing everything possible to save this precious family, but we urgently need your help.

Sweet little Violet is still hoping and wishing for her forever family to find her. ๐Ÿ’œ

This beautiful husky puppy was dropped off at a police station by a family who no longer wanted her, but Violet hasnโ€™t let that dim her spirit. She is sweet, playful, a little mischievous, and full of puppy love.

Violet adores her foster parents and foster siblings, and she would love an active family who will take her on walks, adventures, and give her a furry sibling to romp around the yard with. Like any young husky, she enjoys staying busy, exploring the world around her, and making every day an adventure. ๐Ÿพ

After being left behind once, Violet deserves a family who will love her forever and never let her wonder where she belongs again.

๐Ÿšจ Emergency Update: Rhea is Hospitalized ๐Ÿšจ
Over $7,000 in Medical Care for this Tiny Family

The last 24 hours have been devastating.

Despite repeated veterinary visits, medications, diagnostic testing, and emergency hospitalization, we lost one of Shammi's precious kittens, Tinos. To help save his siblings, we immediately authorized a necropsy in hopes of finding answers.

Another kitten, little Rhea, was rushed back to the emergency hospital after developing labored breathing and coughing. She has been diagnosed with pneumonia and remains hospitalized. We are closely monitoring Shammi and the remaining kittens to determine if additional emergency care is needed.

In less than 24 hours, medical expenses for this family have exceeded $7,000, including emergency hospitalization, diagnostics, treatment, and the necropsy needed to help protect the remaining kittens.

We are doing everything possible to save Shammi and her babies, but we urgently need your help.

๐Ÿ’” Rescue Can Be Heartbreaking ๐Ÿ’”

Rest in Peace sweet Tinos

We have the honor to hold these tiny, precious lives in our hands. We take that so seriously and do everything possible to keep them safe, healthy, and thriving so they can one day find loving forever homes.

But sometimes, despite doing everything right, you can't fix everything.

This morning, we lost one of our precious kittens, Tinos.

Despite repeated veterinary visits, medications, diagnostic testing, and an emergency trip to the hospital this morning, Tinos passed peacefully wrapped in the warmth and love of his mom, Shammi, who refused to eat and just lay with her baby all morning.

This little family has been battling gastrointestinal illness, parasites, and ongoing medical concerns. We have done everything we could to keep them healthy, and today our hearts are broken.

Now, our focus turns to Tinos' siblings โ€” Cora, Eros, Nicos, and Rhea.

All four kittens remain under close observation and are receiving medications, supportive care, and fluids as they continue to struggle with gastrointestinal issues. They are very small for their age, but we are hopeful they will pull through.

To help save his siblings, we are moving forward with a necropsy for Tinos as quickly as possible in hopes of determining what caused his death and whether there is anything more we can do to protect the rest of the family.

Their medical care has already cost several thousand dollars, and expenses continue to grow with ongoing treatment, diagnostics, emergency care, and the necropsy.

Please help us help them with a gift at apathwaytohope.org ๐Ÿพ Venmo ๐Ÿพ PayPal [email protected] ๐Ÿพ Zelle [email protected] ๐Ÿพ

And, please keep Shammi, Cora, Eros, Nicos, and Rhea in your thoughts tonight.

Run free our little angel Tinos. You were loved deeply for every moment you were with us and your sweet mama.
