A little pause before a BIG season at The Luckiest Light! 💛💙

The Luckiest Light will be CLOSED for Labor Day as we take a moment to rest, recharge, and appreciate the incredible community that continues to make this little place so much more than a gallery and studio.

When we open our studio doors again on Wednesday, September 9, we’re coming back to a FULL studio and a very full calendar!

There is so much happening behind these doors, and we can’t wait to share it with you:

October Exhibit Preparation
We’re getting ready for a very meaningful month of art, awareness, and celebration as we prepare our space for Down Syndrome Awareness Month. We’re creating opportunities for artists with Down syndrome to be seen, heard, celebrated, and recognized for their creativity and individuality. Artists, please continue to submit your work and bios.

Fashion Show Planning
Our upcoming Masquerade of Stars: A Night at The Garden is taking shape! Designers, models, artists, volunteers, and community members are bringing this vision to life…and we’re just getting started. Please let us know if you’d like to sponsor this event!

Bingo Fun!
Our bingo fundraiser is on its way, bringing our community together for a night of laughter, prizes, connection, and a whole lot of fun. All while helping support our mission. Get your tickets here https://www.zeffy.com/en-US/ticketing/luckiest-light-bingo-fundraiser

Drum Circle Excitement
We’re preparing for the rhythm, energy, and connection of our upcoming drum circle! Because art isn’t always something you see on a wall. Sometimes it’s something you hear, feel, create, and share together.

The Access to Art Scholarship Program Is on the Way!
Perhaps most exciting of all, we’re working toward launching a scholarship program designed to help create even more opportunities for ALL artists!

The Luckiest Light exists because our community believes that everyone deserves a place where they can be authentic, creative, respected, and valued. So take a day to rest with us. Then come back ready to

Make Art. Be Kind. 💙💛

We’ll see you when the studio doors open again!

I’m trying to put last night’s open reception into words, and honestly, all I can think of is gratitude, pride, and joy.

Gratitude for our friend Joe and his family. Pride in the incredible work he created. And so much joy for the community that showed up to lift him, celebrate him, and make sure his one of a kind talent was seen by everyone who walked through our doors.

Welcome to Metropolis is Joe’s world brought to life. His imagination, his stories, his attention to the little details that so many of us might otherwise miss, and it took an incredible community of people to help bring that vision to life.

To our amazing volunteers, thank you!!!!
Barb and George, thank you for loaning us such beautiful props and helping make Joe’s dream feel real. Dave and Lisa, thank you for smiling every single time we set something up, created a sign, or needed a chair. Dave (and there were several incredible Daves!), thank you for helping Joe with his statement skyline. Sam, thank you for making sure those seagulls were beautifully added at the very last minute. Carol, thank you for jumping in wherever help was needed. Margie, thank you for gluing Joe’s skyscraper into existence. Wendy, thank you for looking at this wonderfully wild vision of ours and saying, essentially, “Absolutely. We couldn’t have staged such a unique show without you. Duke, thank you for filling Metropolis with such beautiful music. Sam and Olivia for documenting this journey. Justin, thank you for getting on that ladder approximately a billion times. 😆JW, thank you for the cinnamon plug ins that helped make Metropolis smell like Joe imagined it. And Carrie !!!!you are incredibly talented. Thank you for bringing Joe’s main character to life and becoming part of his story. Thank you to Joe’s uncle for a one of a kind street sign and Carol’s cousin for the HORSE! EVERYONE CAME TOGETHER!!! 🥹😭🙏🏽

To everyone who came, thank you for genuinely enjoying Joe’s Metropolis. Thank you for your positivity, your encouragement, your support, and for celebrating Joe exactly as he deserves to be celebrated. Thank you for understanding that when you support The Luckiest Light, you aren’t just supporting one artist. You are supporting all of our artists. Artists who work incredibly hard in a welcoming and accessible studio while learning new skills they will carry with them for the rest of their lives.

A very special thank you to our friend Connor from the American Visionary Art Museum for joining us and recognizing our artists for exactly what they are, dignified artists. Your presence meant so much to us.

And finally…our friend Joe.
Thank you for pouring months of your heart, imagination, time, and talent into this exhibition. Your work truly is one of a kind. You notice things other people might walk right past. You find beauty in the details. You remind us to slow down, look closer, and, as your work so beautifully tells us, stop and smell the roses.

Life has a lot of details that can easily be missed. Not by you. Congratulations, my friend. Your Metropolis is officially ALIIIIVE!!!😆❤️

Make Art. Be Kind. Joe’s show will be up for the month of September. Come see it in person. A scavenger hunt with prizes is on its way!!

WELCOME TO METROPOLIS
Joe Harter’s Solo Exhibition
Friday September 4th From 4–7 PM

Tomorrow, The Luckiest Light will open the doors to something truly special, “Welcome To Metropolis,” an entirely original exhibition by Joe Harter. This isn’t simply an art show. It’s an invitation into Joe’s world.

Through his incredible city, beach, and boardwalk scenes, Joe has created a Metropolis all his own and for the first time, we are bringing that world to life in ways you have never seen, heard, or experienced before.

Visitors will encounter sounds, sights, smells, and handwritten stories that have never before been shared publicly. Every detail has been thoughtfully curated to give you a deeper look into Joe’s imagination, his experiences, and the stories behind his remarkable artwork.

And this exhibition represents something even bigger.

“Welcome To Metropolis” is another monumental moment for artists with disabilities in the Havre de Grace Arts and Entertainment District. This is what happens when a community comes together for their neighbor and friend. To every volunteer who poured time, creativity, energy, and love into bringing this exhibition to life…THANK YOU. You have helped create something Joe and our community will remember forever.

To Joe Harter’s family, thank you for trusting The Luckiest Light with such a meaningful collection and allowing us to help share Joe’s world with the community.

And to the one and only Joe Harter 😭🥹We are beyond proud of you. ❤️ We are honored to feature your work, your stories, and your Metropolis. No one can replicate your creations. No one can tell these stories the way you do. Your art is uniquely yours and that is exactly what makes it extraordinary.

Tomorrow, we celebrate YOU, Joe.

Come experience Joe Harter’s Metropolis.
Come hear the stories.
Come see the world through Joe’s eyes.
Come celebrate a milestone that belongs to Joe and every artist who deserves the opportunity to be seen.

Make Art. Be Kind. ❤️

And tomorrow… Welcome To Metropolis. Bring the love, positivity, and quarters! 🪙😉

We are beyond grateful to the Maryland American Water Charitable Foundation for their incredibly generous $10,000 donation to The Luckiest Light! Thank you for helping us make Art accessible to everyone!

This gift means so much to us because it directly supports our mission of empowering artists. A donation like this doesn’t just help keep our doors open, it helps create a place where people are seen, valued, included, and celebrated for exactly who they are.

Thank you, Maryland American Water Charitable Foundation, for believing in our artists and investing in a more inclusive community. We are so grateful to have you shining a light alongside us.

CONGRATULATIONS, QUINN! NEW ARTIST!

Please help us give a HUGE welcome to Quinn Fletcher, the newest artist to join The Luckiest Light!

Quinn is a talented photographer whose unique perspective and one of a kind photographs are now on display in our gallery for the community to enjoy. Through his photography, Quinn captures the beauty, details, colors, and moments that catch his eye, inviting viewers to pause and experience the world from his perspective.

This is a big milestone for Quinn Fletcher. This is Quinn’s first time having his photography featured in a gallery! We are incredibly proud of Quinn for sharing his work, creativity, and vision. We fell in love with his photographs, and we cannot wait for our community to experience them too.

Congratulations, Quinn! We are so happy you’re here, and we can’t wait to watch your journey as an artist continue. Come visit The Luckiest Light and see Quinn’s work for yourself!

The Luckiest Light exists because people like YOU believe that inclusion should be something we experience, create, and carry with us every day.

To every donor, volunteer, artist, family, business, sponsor, and community member who has supported us, thank you! Your generosity helps us keep our doors open, provide accessible art supplies and opportunities, welcome artists with and without disabilities side by side, and create a space where people can walk through the door exactly as they are.

And today, we want to give a very special THANK YOU to Danny’s Deli Havre de Grace for their recent donation and for choosing to support The Luckiest Light through their T-shirt fundraiser!

This is exactly what community support can look like. Every act of generosity becomes part of something bigger.

You can host a T-shirt fundraiser.
You can sponsor an art class.
You can make a donation.
You can ask your business to partner with us.
You can share our mission with 10 people.
You can volunteer your time or your talent.

Create something with us. Because when we invest in art, accessibility, belonging, and human connection, we aren’t just supporting a nonprofit. We’re building a community where everyone belongs.

If you’d like to help us continue this work, you can donate here:

And be sure to say HI to our amazing volunteers today! They’re working hard behind the scenes to transform our studio space and prepare it for artists throughout our community.

Thank you Kari, Matthew, Thea, Kevin, and Hannah for being a part of today’s self advocate panel. Thank you Kari for sharing your exhibit with Harford county for the last two months and thank you for advocating on behalf of individuals living in our community.
Today we had a wonderful turnout and discussed disability history, education, institutionalization, employment, and more! Thanks to the self advocates who shared their lived experiences and opening our eyes to the work that needs to be done to better our world for everyone sharing it. Thank you to everyone who came to listen and join in during the open discussion. Today was moving and also a reminder of why The Luckiest Light exists. If you’d like our help in making your organization meaningfully inclusive and accessible we have a lot of self advocates who would love to meet you.
Thank you all again!
