Havre de Grace Green Team Havre de Grace Green Team For those interested in joining our Green Team, please contact us directly at [email protected].

The Havre de Grace Green Team Ltd., which was established in January of 2011, is a group of volunteers that review, evaluate, and implement sustainable green initiatives, with the goal of creating a "greener," more sustainable community with the City of Havre de Grace that meets the present needs of its citizens without compromising the ability to provide for its future generations. As such, the goals and objectives of the Green Team are as follows:

- Recommend sustainable practices for the City of Havre de Grace.

- Facilitate the education of the Havre de Grace community to the benefits of "going green" as a way to achieve a more sustainable future and more efficiently meet our "human" needs.

- Work closely with other Havre de Grace organizations to promote actions and behavior among citizens that are consistent with a sustainable vision for the future.

- Identify, recommend and pursue grant opportunities to help fund and defray the costs associated with "green" practices.

- Identify and recommend policies and practices that will provide opportunities for conservation and enhancements in the quality of our natural resources.

- Identify and recommend opportunities for cost savings in energy and natural resource consumption. We will keep you updated on future initiatives. Work with us to turn Havre de Grace into Havre de Green!

DUMPED KITTEN ALERT - Our friend Jodie Shivery has reported that someone has dumped kittens in the Bird City Sanctuary near the Maritime Museum.

Now that these kittens have been discovered a whole lot of time and trouble is being expended by a lot of people to collect/capture them. Outdoor cats kill millions of birds each year, so dumping them only is bad for the cats it is bad for the environment.

If you have a cat or kittens you can not care for, please do not dump them for the community to deal with. You can find help at HdG Stray Streets or Harford County Shadow Cats.

If you are interested in helping find homes for these kittens please let us know.

Another nice fall evening for a hike. A fairly cooperative beaver was cruising through the wetlands at Swan Harbor Farm.

Planted in April 2024, the Green Team Pollinator Garden at Tydings Memorial Park has flourished so much that we need to thin some of the plants. Recently our volunteers dug up and potted plants to share with the community at our upcoming plant swap. Fall is the perfect time to plant perennials, and so we encourage you to share your perennials or just pick up some new plants at the swap to be held at the Market St. Community Garden across from Graw Alley on Sunday Oct. 18 from 10 to noon.
