Barry County 4-H Program This site displays information on current happenings in the Barry County MSU Extension 4-H Program Barry County 4-H is a United Way member agency.

Barry County MSU Extension 4-H program involves volunteers in providing positive, experiential, educational opportunities for and with youth aged 5 to 19. Programming will be primarily delivered through 4-H clubs and in- and out-of-school, community-based networks.

Happy National 4-H Week! Our final Saturday Spotlight is on the Panther Paws Poultry Club!

The Panther Paws Poultry Club is a dedicated group of 4-H Members, Alumni, and Volunteer Leaders! 4-H Members Jackson, Micah, Audrey, Esmarie, Sapphira, Bella, Kinley, Alizebeth, MaryRose, Kaya, and Ireland are guided in their 4-H journeys by their leaders, Mrs. Bishop, Mrs. Zink, Grandma T, Ms. Melissa and Ms. Kathy, who help them expand their horizons through their own knowledge and experiences. The projects the 4-H members include but are not limited to chickens, turkeys, dogs, rabbits, goats, geese, sewing, project notebooks, and various other crafts! Some of their favorite memories include seeing friends at the fair, discovering new breeds of chickens, showing at the fair, expanding their knowledge through educational projects and research, making projects like bucket hats, seeing their favorite animals at fair, and watching Grandma T catch a goat at the fair! Mrs. Bishop's favorite part of 4-H is working with the kids and helping them grow! 4-H has taught the members of the Panther Paws Poultry Club responsibility, respect, public speaking, creativity, marketing skills, how to be brave, time management, better focus and listening skills, and manners. These skills have helped the 4-H members of the Panther Paws Poultry Club become Beyond Ready for whatever life brings their way!

Happy National 4-H Week! Our seventh and final day of celebrations begins with our Saturday Spotlight on 4-H Alumni and Swine Leader for the Farmyard Fusion 4-H Club, Libby S!

Libby has been involved in 4-H her entire life, showing horses, swine, non-livestock projects, and eventually dairy feeders as a 4-H Youth Member! During her time with 4-H Libby built an incredible network of lifelong friendships with individuals who are knowledgeable, kind, and always willing to reach out a helping hand when they can! Some of Libby's favorite 4-H memories include learning new skills, early mornings and long nights in the barns, and all of the meaningful memories made with friends and loved ones along the way. Now as a leader, Libby uses the skills she learned to be Beyond Ready through 4-H to help the new generation of 4-H Members build their confidence and valuable life skills, form lifelong friendships, and create the memories they'll carry with them long after their time showing as 4-H Youth Members!

Happy National 4-H Week! Our second Friday Spotlight is on 4-H Member Raelynn S!

Raelynn has been part of the Barry County 4-H program for two years! In previous years, Raelynn has shown crafts, chickens, and goats, and participated in the Small Animal Sale selling her Roaster Chickens at the Barry County Fair! This coming year Raelynn will be showing chickens, and possibly pigs. Raelynn's favorite 4-H memories include hanging out with her chickens and her friends! 4-H has taught Raelynn how to be more responsible, to work better with others, and hot to be more brave!

Happy National 4-H Week! Today we begin our sixth day of celebrations with our first Friday Spotlight on Elsie H!

Elsie first began her 4-H journey as a Cloverbud showing goats, stepped away for many years, and returned in 2025 to show lambs, and participate in the 2026 Barry County Fair! Elsie's favorite 4-H memory is from selling her biggest lamb to a friend of her father's. 4-H has helped Elsie become Beyond Ready by it has helped her learn the hard things that come with life.

Happy National 4-H Week! Our second Thursday Spotlight is 4-H Alumni and Volunteer Courtney S!

Courtney has been involved in 4-H her whole life! Now the Non-Livestock Superintendent at the Barry County Fair and leader of the Our Legacy 4-H Club, Courtney grew up watching the adults around her use their knowledge and skills to educate and create meaningful experiences for 4-H members! During her time as a 4-H Member, Courtney showed dairy and a long list of non-livestock projects. Many of her favorite 4-H memories are ones she shares with friends from the program, as well as pride she felt showing her educational notebooks, non-livestock projects, and winning the Livestock Fashion Show at the Barry County Fair in a pair of pajamas she made herself. 4-H has taught Courtney many things like the importance of taking pride in your work, responsibility, determination, leadership, and hard work. 4-H also taught Courtney that sometimes the best rewards are the friendships you make along the way, the confidence you build, and the memories you make. 4-H has helped Courtney become Beyond Ready through her abilities gained through her time with 4-H, and prepared her to teach the importance of those same skills and lessons with the next generation of 4-H youth!

Happy National 4-H Week! As we move into the fifth day of National 4-H Week, we begin our celebrations with our Thursday Spotlight on 4-H Member Josey S!

Josey began her journey with 4-H at 7 years old in the Cloverbud program showing crafts, dairy feeders, and chickens. As a 4-H member, she now shows crafts, chickens, and hogs. Some of her favorite 4-H memories include playing with friends in the mud after the rainstorms during fair week. During her time in 4-H, Josey has learned to love animals and how important it is to work hard! Josey is 4-H Beyond Ready because 4-H has helped her come out of her shy bubble and become better at talking and socializing with others!

Happy National 4-H Week! Our fourth day of celebrations begins with our Wednesday Spotlight on 4-H Member Trinity E!

Trinity has been in 4-H for one year and has loved every moment of it! Trinity participates in the equine showmanship, flower bed, mosaic, baking/bake sale, macrame, sewing, gift wrapping, and public speaking project areas. Two of Trinity's favorite 4-H memories are dressing up as Betsy Ross for the Livestock Fashion Show at the 2026 Barry County Fair to honor her legacy as important figure in history, and a community service project where she wrapped Christmas gifts for children at the Charlotte Fire Department! 4-H has taught Trinity better communication, time management, horse care, teamwork, resiliency, responsibility, and goal setting, and provided a space for her to explore her passion for horses!

As we celebrate National 4-H Week, we’re also proud to celebrate the 4-H alumni who continue to live out the values of 4-H!

We are excited to recognize former Barry County 4-H member Beverly Ferris Hain, who was recently inducted into the 2026 Michigan 4-H Emerald Clover Society, an honor recognizing outstanding former 4-H members for their professional leadership and community service.

Beverly’s 4-H roots began right here in Barry County, and we are so proud to see the lasting impact of her 4-H experience throughout a lifetime of leadership and service. 💚

National 4-H Week is a great reminder that 4-H doesn’t just impact the years you’re a member. The skills, friendships, leadership, and experiences can last a lifetime.

Happy National 4-H Week! We are beginning our third day of our celebrations with our Tuesday Spotlight on 4-H Alumni Danielle G!

Growing up as a 4-H Member, Danielle participated in the dairy, beef, and sheep project areas, met amazing people, made lifelong memories, and had wonderful educational experiences and opportunities! Some of Danielle's favorite 4-H memories include spending long days at the fair, showing her animals, and making memories with her family and friends. 4-H has helped Danielle become Beyond Ready by teaching her to be flexible, work hard, step outside of her comfort zone, and take on new challenges, and given her the patience, confidence and skills to handle anything that comes her way!

As part of our celebrations for National 4-H Week, the Barry County MSU Extension Office is holding a Resource Fair this Wednesday, October 7th, from 4:00-7:30pm at our office! Come check out the resources we have in our office that are available for you to use! Don't see something you think is helpful? Tell us! We will also be taking ideas for other resources that we do not currently have to help you become Beyond Ready. We can't wait to see you!
