Great to be a part of the Very Barry Family Event again this year. We gave away 36 bikes to kids of all ages and hundreds of bike helmets as well. Special thanks to all the Rotarians who volunteered their time today or donated bikes to the drawing. Also we appreciate Habitat for Humanity Barry County, Barry County Lumber, SilentBark & ProTec Panel & Truss Manufacturing LLC. for logistical support and Corewell Health Pennock Hospital for financial assistance with the purchase of the helmets.

Big thanks to Travis Alden, former Hastings Rotarian, Client Relationships Leader at SME USA, who addressed our Hastings High School Interact Club seniors this week.

Travis described his multi-faceted career path from attaining a college degree in video production, launching into local government, downtown and economic development, non-profit leadership, and now a private corporate business development role. The common thread that invigorates Travis is bringing people together to develop and work toward common visions. He reassured graduates that they should not feel pressure to know exactly what they want to be when they grow up, and encouraged them to lean into opportunities, taking their passion to work with them wherever they go in life.

Travis came to Barry County in 2016 to become the President of the Barry County Chamber of Commerce & Economic Development Alliance. He went on to serve in regional economic development roles at The Right Place, before joining SME.
