In 1995, Dolly Parton started mailing books to children in her home county to inspire children to love reading in honor of her dad, who couldn’t read or write.

In 2016, We pooled funds from the three clubs (Delton, Hastings and Middleville) then also secured a Rotary District grant for our initial seed funding. Ten years later, the partners also include the Barry County United Way & Volunteer Center, Barry Community Foundation , local donors and the parents who read to their children!!

Every month, over 1,400 children in Barry County find a book in the mailbox — because of neighbors who fund it, volunteers who run it, and a woman from Sevier County, TN who started it all.

Thank you, Dolly. We will always love you.

BCF Community Grant Applications Are Open! 🎉🎉

Does your nonprofit have a project, program or idea that could make a difference in Barry County?

Community Grants can support a wide range of needs and projects. Past grants have helped nonprofits:
• Purchase equipment and supplies for youth programs
• Provide transportation to help individuals get to work
• Provide basic-needs and personal-care items
• Create educational opportunities for local students
• Support programs that help individuals and families thrive

If you have an idea that could benefit our community, we encourage you to apply!

Beyond grateful that we get to support such an amazing group doing amazing things for our community 🫶🏻

Are you an RN, NP, or Respiratory Therapist who excels at breaking down medical care into simple, actionable steps? We want to partner with you on a grant-funded project!

To bridge the gap in accessible care for families of people with complex medical needs, we are building a community-based program to teach temporary respite providers (babysitters, family, neighbors) how to safely assist with:

🧑‍🦼Tube feeding and mechanical ventilation

❤ Specialized CPR and First Aid tailored for people with disabilities

This is a grant-funded R&D initiative for FY2026. A small stipend is available for professional partners.

Today's Fund Feature: Invest Barry 🌸

Since 1954, Barlow Florist has been a downtown Hastings staple - started by Eugene and Norma Barlow, then carried on by their son Norm and his wife Carole, who've kept this family business blooming for generations. 💐

When construction damage compromised the shop's front façade and entrance, Barlow Florist turned to Invest Barry for help. Thanks to a low-interest Invest Barry loan, they were able to complete major structural repairs - re-centering and reinforcing the storefront so they could safely welcome customers again.

Invest Barry has helped 21 local businesses since 2012, with over $2 million in loans reinvested right back into Barry County. When you invest in local, it keeps working for the whole community. 🌼
