New York State Shields The New York State Shields is a Law Enforcement Fraternal Organization comprised of active and retired law enforcement Officers throughout NY State and abroad.

Established in 1990, the primary mission is to honor LEO’s who have made the supreme sacrifice. Our organization was founded in 1990 by visionaries Patrick Brosnan and John Fleming. The Shields has become one of the most highly respected and visible organization dedicated to honoring the memory of fallen officers and their families while honoring active officers and their departments for heroic acts of bravery and outstanding work.

The deadline for the 2026 New York Law Enforcement Foundation College Scholarship has been extended to July 31st. Eligibility is open to paid members only including those who wish to join now. The winner will be selected through a drawing once all submissions have been received. Please follow the instructions on the application below. With profound sadness, we announce the passing of our friend and New York State Shields Secretary James Venezia on Friday, June 19th. A long time supporter of law enforcement, James distinguished himself through his service on the boards of multiple law enforcement fraternities and will always be remembered for his incredible kindness, positive spirit, and un withering support for anyone who needed assistance. Our Executive Board and Trustees extends our sincerest condolences to Jimmy’s family and friends. Rest assured that Jimmy’s legacy will always be remembered and honored by us.
May God’s bless him in eternity and bless his family during this difficult time.
