This chapter of the Virginia Native Plant Society includes five counties: Augusta, Highland, Page, Rockingham, and Shenandoah. Our interim board is comprised of Anna Maria Johnson, Elaine Smith, Isaac Matlock, Lora Steiner, and Katy Melton Simpson. Pages can be followed and liked, but only groups can be joined. Shenandoah Chapter is set up as a page but is also an in-person group you can join via vnps.org. Virginia Ridge and Valley Native Plants is a Facebook group that can be joined only virtually. The Virginia Native Plant Society on Facebook has both a page and a group.

Have you ever wondered about planting/nursery pot sizes? Why a gallon pot at a nursery seems way smaller than a gallon of milk? Me too!

One particular challenge is that there are different brands of pots and while many are same/similar sizes there's often discrepancies. Additionally, growers and wholesalers will call a pot by one name that doesn't reflect the pots actual size.

I feel bad sometimes because a grower will say "these are quarts!" and its a 4" pot and then I go to a sale promising quarts and bringing something smaller than quarts.

To solve that problem, I'm going to try to be more specific about pot size and volumes. I thought folks might want to see this conversion chart I made. This is square pots from just one grower, but they line up with most of the square pots I come in contact with.
