For older children ready for deeper exploration, Adventure Naturalists offers hands-on, inquiry-based experiences that encourage real scientific thinking and a stronger connection to the land. These two-hour sessions challenge participants to ask big questions, collect data, and understand how northern Michigan’s ecosystems work.

Sessions run on Mondays in the Petoskey/Harbor Springs/Charlevoix area from 10am-12pm. Participant number is limited to 15.

🪶 Help Protect Nesting Piping Plovers

A friendly reminder that Piping Plovers are currently nesting with chicks at Vermilion Point, Sturgeon Bay, and other Great Lakes shoreline locations.

Dogs are not allowed on these beaches right now to keep the chicks safe.

Closures are in effect: Vermilion Point is closed after midnight Monday–Friday. Your help respecting these areas makes a big difference for these rare shorebirds.

Thank you for helping protect the North Country we all love!

🌍 Where in the World is the Little Traverse Conservancy?

Our LTC hats are on adventures big and small—this time all the way to the mountains of Alaska! Meet Charlie and Joseph, our youngest North Country explorers who made it all the way to Summit Lake, Hatcher Pass in Palmer, Alaska.

Where will your LTC hat take you next? Share your photos with [email protected] to be featured in a future newsletter!

Meet two incredible stewards of Beaver Island—Pam Grassmick and Lee Sachnoff! 🌲
Their dedication and generosity have helped protect precious shorelines, wetlands, and natural spaces that so many people cherish. From the Stanhope Family Nature Preserve to the Pam Grassmick Nature Preserve, their impact will be felt for generations.
Pam Grassmick is deeply committed to loving Beaver Island as an LTC volunteer and supporter. To show her how much she is appreciated, Charles Wilson and an anonymous foundation worked with LTC to protect this land in Pam's honor.
Lee Sachnoff was a man who deeply cherished the natural world and loved Beaver Island. Lee and his wife Cheryl had a home on McCauley's Bay that he would often travel to alone because he enjoyed what Cheryl described as " the spirit of the people on the island—the freedom, the lack of pretense, the way the community loves and values nature."
Thank you, Pam and Lee, for your deep love of the island and the North Country we all share.

We want to express our gratitude to the Cheboygan law enforcement and fire fighters who contained last night’s fire at the Duncan Bay Nature Preserve. Thankfully no one was hurt and we understand a suspect has been detained. The trails and beach are accessible and we will be working to repair damages.
