This morning, the Hanover Area Chamber of Commerce joined Main Street Hanover for their October Downtown Cleanup! Our team pitched in to help keep downtown looking its best.

A vibrant downtown is something we all share, and it takes a community to care for it. Thank you to Main Street Hanover for organizing and to everyone who lent a hand.

The team at Visiting Angels of Hanoveris wearing pink this month in support of Breast Cancer Awareness Month! 🎀 We love seeing our local businesses and their teams come together to raise awareness and show their support for an important cause.

Visiting Angels is dedicated to providing compassionate, dependable in-home care that helps older adults in Hanover and the surrounding communities age comfortably in place while maintaining their independence and dignity. Today marked our LAST downtown cleanup of the year! A huge THANK YOU to our amazing volunteers who show up to help keep Hanover beautiful. 💙

But before we close the book on 2026, let’s talk about the litter in the room…

🚬 Did you know that the item we pick up MOST during our downtown cleanups is cigarette butts?

Spoiler alert: There is no Cigarette Fairy. 🧚‍♀️

Once upon a time, people believed a magical fairy would swoop in to pick up cigarette butts tossed onto sidewalks, streets, and parking lots. She’d happily clean up after everyone, leaving our downtown sparkling clean!

Sounds lovely, right? Unfortunately, that fairy doesn't exist. The real-life cleanup crew? Our volunteers, our neighbors, our business owners, and YOU.

Cigarette butts are litter, and tossing them onto the ground or out of a car window is not proper disposal. If you choose to smoke, please take responsibility for your waste and dispose of cigarette butts in an appropriate receptacle. Every small action makes a difference!

💪 Here's what we've accomplished together: During the last fiscal year, our volunteers collected 512 GALLONS OF TRASH from downtown Hanover! That's 512 gallons of litter that would otherwise remain on our streets, sidewalks, and public spaces.

And guess what? We're ready to do it all again!

📅 Downtown Cleanups return in April 2027! We'll meet on the fourth Tuesday of each month, April through October, and we'd love to have YOU join us.

Whether you can volunteer with us or simply make a conscious effort to dispose of your waste properly, you can be part of the solution.

Let's leave the fairy tales to the storybooks and the litter where it belongs, in the trash!

Since opening in 2018, The Cake Bar has become Hanover’s premiere cake shop, known for cakes by the slice, cookies, custom special-occasion cakes, and a full barista bar — and it will remain OPEN as Amanda looks for the right person to carry on the legacy.
