Last night was nothing short of magical! ✨The EASTCONN Head Start Art Show at Killingly High School brought together our youngest students and their families for a truly unforgettable evening - and our hearts are still full! πŸ’™
This year's theme, The Four Seasons, inspired a breathtaking collection of artwork created by our littlest artists - painting, drawing, and sculpting in mixed media including paint, crayons, ceramic tile, markers, wood, plastic, vinyl, and yes - even some glitter and jewels! ✨
Their work drew inspiration from celebrated artists including Dale Chihuly and Alma Woodsey Thomas, and the results were absolutely stunning.
The evening was pure joy from start to finish - families exploring beautiful artwork, kids painting their own butterflies at the interactive station, delicious food from EASTCONN Food Services, music filling the air, and little ones running around with the biggest smiles. πŸ¦‹πŸ•πŸŽΆ
This is what early childhood education looks like at its very best. Congratulations - and thank you - to our Head Start students, families, and the incredible staff who made this evening so special and truly memorable! πŸŒŸπŸ’™

Yesterday, EASTCONN had the privilege of welcoming Connecticut State Representative Jennifer Leeper for a full-day tour of our schools and programs.
Representative Leeper spent the morning focused on Innovation & Early Childhood - engaging with students at Quinebaug Middle College in a candid discussion about the middle college experience and the power of dual enrollment, followed by a visit to Eastconn Head Start in Danielson for a tour and briefing on regional childcare expansion efforts.
The afternoon shifted to Arts & Specialized Programming - a creative showcase at EASTCONN's Arts at the Capitol Theater highlighting ACT's arts-integrated curriculum, and a meaningful visit to CDT for a tour of the therapeutic program and conversations with specialized staff about student support systems.
From early childhood to middle college, from the arts to specialized education - Representative Leeper engaged with genuine curiosity and enthusiasm every step of the way.
Thank you for taking the time to see firsthand the vital work happening across EASTCONN!

What an incredible experience! 🌟 Last week, students from Odyssey Community School, Windham Middle School, Renzulli Academy, and Voluntown Elementary School headed to UConn for an unforgettable hands-on experience through EASTCONN's Innovate & Create Interdistrict Grant Program - presented in partnership with UConn Navy STEM and Electric Boat.
The day was packed with real-world challenges and eye-opening experiences:
βš“ Shipyard Propeller Showdown - Teams worked together to move a propeller from warehouse to submarine - without using their hands! Applying skills from welding, electrical, pipefitting, and rigging, students raced against the clock in a high-stakes team challenge.
🧠 Think Fast: Engineering & Industry Trivia - Fast-paced competitive trivia covering engineering, the Navy, Electric Boat, UConn, manufacturing, and more. Bragging rights were definitely on the line!
πŸ—οΈ UConn Structures Lab Tour - Students got an up-close look at where engineers push materials and structures to their limits - recreating earthquakes, heavy loads, and real-world forces to advance safer, stronger infrastructure.
Days like these open doors, spark curiosity, and show students what's possible. The future of manufacturing and engineering is in good hands!
