Williams -Transco has reapplied for the Northeast Supply Enhancement (NESE) Project which proposes:
路 Construction of a fracked gas-powered compressor station (the most polluting type) in Franklin Township near Trap Rock Quarry.
路 3.5 miles of connecting pipeline through Old Bridge
路 23 miles of new pipeline under the Raritan Bay/New York Harbor
Impacts:
路 The construction of the proposed unmanned compressor station will create air and water pollution by releasing toxic chemicals.
路 The gases and toxins emitted by compressor stations increase the risks of asthma, cardiovascular, neurological, developmental, and respiratory diseases, and cancers.
路 The higher pressure and speed of the gas coming from compressor stations increases the risk of leaks, fires & explosions.
路 A pipeline under the Raritan Bay/New York Bay will dredge up toxins buried for decades and cause pollution, increase flooding and destroy critical wetlands and habitats.
路 Pipelines leak enormous amounts of methane, a stronger greenhouse gas (GHG) than CO2, which directly contributes to climate change.
Unnecessary & Not Needed for New Jersey:
路 This project is not in the public interest of the residents of New Jersey. The communities in New Jersey will suffer the adverse effects of pipeline leakage and compressor station pollution (noise, odor, air and water), while none of this gas is for New Jersey.
