October 20 is World Osteoporosis Day!
Did you know?
🦴 Approximately 10 million Americans have osteoporosis, and another 44 million have low bone density.
🦴 1 in 2 women and up to 1 in 4 men over age 50 will break a bone due to osteoporosis in their lifetime.
🦴 Osteoporosis is often called a "silent disease" because bone loss can occur without noticeable symptoms until a fracture happens.
The good news? There are steps you can take to protect your bones!
Regular weight-bearing exercise, strength training, adequate calcium and vitamin D, and bone density screenings can all play an important role in maintaining bone health.
Through Project Healthy Bones, Interfaith Caregivers of Greater Mercer County helps older adults improve strength, balance, and mobility through guided exercise, education, and social connection.
This World Osteoporosis Day, make your bone health a priority. Strong bones support healthy, independent aging!
