Thanks to y'all—our resilient, brilliant, unstoppable, loving community—we had the honor of kicking off Pride Month at the National Transgender Health Summit. Sharing our experiences as a rural org reminded us just how powerful and necessary our stories are.

This summit was more than a platform—it was a mirror, reflecting both the beauty of trans joy and the weight of the barriers we still face. It reminded us that while trans joy is sacred, it's necessary in order to fight for space in a world that tries to erase it and that gender affirming care is a life saving and sustaining intervention.

We’re still here. Rooted in community, rising with pride. We carry the torch to ensure that our approach to care and community is intersectional and holistic. And we won't stop showing up, speaking up, and building futures where our people are not just surviving, but thriving.

Black LGBTQIA+ leaders have always been at the forefront of justice, resilience, and change. From Marsha P. Johnson’s fearless advocacy to Audre Lorde’s powerful words, their impact continues to shape movements for equality and liberation. Black q***r and trans communities have long been the heartbeat of culture, activism, and resistance. This Black History Month, we honor their legacy, celebrate their brilliance, and commit to uplifting their voices.

Despite the alarming rollbacks and attacks on our rights, particularly in trans healthcare, we’re still here—proud, loud, and unbreakable. Two major medical systems in Virginia, & , are already caving to the Trump administration’s harmful agenda, rolling back gender-affirming care for people under 19.

But let it be clear: the fight is far from over. We will continue to provide harm reduction supplies and fight tirelessly for healthcare protections for our trans siblings. We will continue to provide medical advocacy for q***r folx who have been harmed, and we will continue to show up & out loud. We’re not going anywhere. If you’re dedicated to advancing LGBTQIA+ advocacy, fostering community well-being, and driving meaningful change, we’d love to hear from you.This is your chance to make an impact and help guide the future of our organization!

At Lean In Project, we’re all about building affirming services that truly serve LGBTQIA+ individuals. We’re committed to checking ourselves and our partners through an equity-focused lens, taking action to disrupt harmful systems (or “cistems”) that reinforce ra©ism, yt supremacy, homophobia, and transphobia.

We will prioritize LGBTQIA+ folx in rural regions (Southside VA region preferred), but would love to hear from everyone. Interested folx should email us at [email protected] to learn more and apply.

Today, the Lean In Project stood proudly with to advocate for LGBTQIA+ rights and push back against harmful legislation targeting our community—especially our trans siblings.

Meeting with our representatives was powerful, and we were thrilled to connect with the inspiring (swoon-worthy leadership in action!). Together, we’ll keep fighting for a more inclusive and equitable Virginia!

Join Equality Virginia, Lean In Project, Martinsville & Henry County Pride Coalition, and Collidescope for a weekend of community and action!

Catch EQVA’s Staff & Board and local leaders in Danville on Friday, December 6th and Saturday, December 7th! Join us for a meet and greet and drag show on Friday evening, and then come by our Community Town Hall on Saturday to share about what matters most to YOU in a time when our community is facing unprecedented attacks. We invite you to share about issues impacting LGBTQ+ people in Southside VA, and EQVA will provide a debrief of the 2024 legislative session, the 2024 election, and a look ahead to 2025. We'll finish out the day at a community get-together with live music!
