JUNETEENTH: The L. E. Coleman African-American Museum will celebrate Juneteenth on June 19 at the L. E. Coleman Museum located at 3011 Mountain Road, Halifax. The program will begin at 11 a.m. Entertainment will be provided by the West Brothers, the Rev. E. Naomi Bouldin and Carmina Eder. The speakers for the event will be Sari Smith, Aariyana Britton and Elijah Easley. The theme for the event will be “Honoring the past, serving the present, and inspiring the future”. The Henrietta Lacks Hometown Initiative Committee wishes to announce the ribbon cutting for the marker being placed at the Henrietta Lacks statue located at Constitution Square in downtown South Boston. The event will take place on May 22, 2026, at 9 am. The public is invited. There will also be a book signing with Alfred Carter, Henrietta’s grandson, at the Halifax/South Boston Visitor’s Center from 9:30am – 12:30pm on May 22, 2026. The public is invited to join us.

The Halifax County NAACP hosted etiquette classes at a local elementary school, led by Yvette Bethel, a certified etiquette consultant and owner of All Forks LLC, an etiquette consulting firm based in Halifax, Virginia. Bethel provides training to both children and adults to enhance social skills, business communication, and dining etiquette. Following the training session, a banquet meal courtesy of Four Oaks Restaurant was served to the students. Special appreciation is extended to Hitachi Energy for sponsoring the banquet meal. The students expressed their gratitude by creating a thank you card, which was presented to Ryland Clark at the NAACP's regular meeting last night.
