: a huge win for campaigners!
'Horror' pig farm, Hogwood, in South Warwickshire is closing 👏

Our friends at Viva! have investigated the farm four times since 2017, finding evidence of overcrowding, animal abuse (workers hitting pigs with poles) and the routine mutilation of animals 💔.

Now, it is confirmed that the farm, that was home to horrendous cruelty, will be closed and turned into housing.

We'd like to thank every single person who speaks up against factory farming. What was discovered at Hogwood, and at Cranswick factory farms as we've reported on in the recent past, is an epidemic. In factory farms, animals are treated as commodities rather than the living, breathing, feeling sentient beings that they are 🐷.
This is a win for animals, but we must keep pressure on until all animals are safe from abuse behind the doors of factory farms.

Hi friends, it’s Pearl 🐷💕

I wanted to apologize for the lack of social media posts lately. Mom has been having a really hard time after losing her sweet daughter Marina. Her heart is still healing, and some days are tougher than others. We’ve all been feeling the quiet around here.

But I want you to know something important — Mom and Dad are still out here every single day taking care of us. They make sure we have fresh water, food, clean spaces, and lots of love. Even on the hardest days, they show up for us.

Right now, though, they could really use some help.

Feed costs are through the roof, and it takes a lot to keep all of our bellies full. Pool season is also fast approaching, and we pigs LOVE our pools to stay cool and healthy during the warm months. 🐷💦

Any amount truly helps us more than you know. Whether it’s a small donation, a bag of feed, or sharing this post, you are helping Mom and Dad keep Pearls Preserve running and keep us safe and cared for.

It’s me… Gwinig the Pig.

I know we’ve been a little quiet over here, and I wanted to pop in with a little oink and an apology. Our Pig Mama Lexie has been having a tough time juggling all the things — working hard, trying to keep up with social media, and most importantly, making sure all of us piggies (and the rest of the crew!) are safe, fed, loved, and tucked in every night.

Sometimes when you’re caring for 100+ hungry snouts, the phones and posts have to wait. And we promise… we are still here. Still snorting. Still rooting. Still demanding snacks at sunrise. 🐷✨

But we do need a little help right now.

Our feed donations are running low, and these bellies do not believe in portion control. Any amount — big or small — truly helps keep our troughs full and our tails curly. If you’ve been meaning to donate, this would be an amazing time.

And with spring coming (hello mud season 🌷🌱), we would love some extra hands on the farm. Cleaning, refilling waters, fence checks, belly rubs (very important duty) — helpers make such a difference. 🐗 ✨ Happy New Year from Pearls Preserve ✨

We owe you all a sincere apology for our long silence. This past season has brought unimaginable loss to our sanctuary family.

In a catastrophic and life-altering event, our founder tragically lost her daughter. In the wake of this devastation, she has taken time to grieve, survive, and simply put one foot in front of the other. There are no words that fully capture this loss, but we are deeply grateful for the compassion and patience shown by this community.

Through it all, the pigs of Pearls Preserve continue to need care, food, warmth, and safety—every single day. While our hearts are heavy, our commitment to them has never wavered.

As we step into the New Year, we are asking for your support. Our founder’s birthday is on January 17, and in honor of that day, we are hoping to raise as much as possible to help cover essential sanctuary expenses—especially feed costs, which alone total $2,400 per month, along with straw, medical care, and daily operating needs.

If you are able to donate, share, or send encouragement, it truly means more than we can express. Your support keeps the pigs fed, warm, and loved during a time when it matters most.

Friends, imagine sleeping in your car every night… with a dog in the passenger seat and a 250-pound pig curled up in the back. 🐷

That was the real life of Tony James, a veteran of the United States Navy, not in a movie, not a skit, not a stunt — but on the streets of Portland. After a string of personal losses, he lost his housing but refused to abandon the only family he had left: his dog and a massive potbellied pig he promised to protect. So he stayed. In a car. In the cold. Night after night. 🪖

At first, people stared because of the pig. It was unusual. Almost absurd. A full-sized farm animal living in a sedan. But that shock wore off fast when the deeper truth surfaced. This wasn’t a quirky viral moment. This was survival. Loyalty under pressure. A man honoring a promise when walking away would’ve been easier. 🚗

Then the turn. First responders from Portland Fire & Rescue stepped in. Not with judgment. With help. They secured safe shelter for the animals. They helped Tony reconnect with services and a path back to stability. For the first time in months, he didn’t have to choose between safety and loyalty. 🚨

And that’s the part that sticks. A veteran fell through the cracks. A pig stole the spotlight. But quiet human decency pulled him back.

Sometimes the rescue doesn’t come from noise. It comes from someone simply deciding, “Not today. Not on my watch.” 💛
