Warnell Forest Explorers Summer Camp was amazing last week!

We had 23 campers join us for a week of nature, discovery, and outdoor fun. These kids explored, learned, and adventured like true forest scientists. 🌲

We’re so excited to have our next group of campers out here in two weeks!

Celebrating World Turtle Day with a special appearance from Shelly, our gopher tortoise ambassador. 🌿🐢

Gopher tortoises are a keystone species, creating burrows that shelter hundreds of other animals. Shelly helps us teach visitors why protecting them matters — and today she’s modeling her best slow-and-steady strut.

Our second annual Owl Prowl was a huge success! A big thank‑you to Ranger Nick for traveling all the way from Athens to lead this amazing program. We spotted two Eastern Screech Owls and heard two Great Horned Owls — such an unforgettable night. And of course, s’mores, hot chocolate, and lemonade made it even better!

This afternoon’s owl pellet dissection was an absolute blast, and there’s truly nothing better than hands‑on learning and discovering what owls have been snacking on. We found everything from bird to shrew to mouse skulls, and one participant even pulled four skulls from a single pellet — that was one hungry owl.
