The numbers are in, and the impact on our families is huge! Since our $4.8 million OpenAI grant started providing free meals to all students on Sept. 8, we've seen incredible results:

🥞 Breakfast Participation: Up 53.6%!
🥪 Lunch Participation: Up 35.9%!

That’s thousands of meals served every week to keep our children learning, while keeping extra money right where it belongs: in our families' pockets.

A huge thank you to our hardworking cafeteria teams and our amazing school community. We are so proud to take care of our Effingham family together! 💙

Our association has developed resources for parents on steps they can take to advocate for and help ensure schools are safe and supportive places for their children as well as on how to cope with and talk to their children about violence. 📣🍽Big news for Effingham County School District families!
Starting Tuesday, September 8.

OpenAI is covering all student breakfast and lunch costs for the 2026/27 school year through Project Camellia Community Commitment.

This $4.8 million grant delivers direct financial relief straight to families. As ECSD Nutritional Services Coordinator Jessica O’Leary shared, with daily expenses rising for so many families, knowing that your child receives a healthy meal gives parents one less thing to worry about while ensuring every student is nourished and ready to learn.

This initiative is one part of OpenAI's $80 million community commitment to Effingham County. From local organization grants to new parks and recreation facilities, your feedback determines where funding goes next.

🛑 Let’s put a stop to illegal school bus passing. 🛑

When a school bus extends its stop sign, it means children are loading or unloading. Passing a stopped bus isn’t just dangerous—it’s against the law.

🚍 Georgia’s “Addy’s Law” (effective May 2024) carries a minimum $1,000 fine for illegally passing a stopped bus.

Let’s keep Effingham County students safe. When the bus stops, YOU stop too. 👦👧
