🛑 Let’s put a stop to illegal school bus passing. 🛑

When a school bus extends its stop sign, it means children are loading or unloading. Passing a stopped bus isn’t just dangerous—it’s against the law.

🚍 Georgia’s “Addy’s Law” (effective May 2024) carries a minimum $1,000 fine for illegally passing a stopped bus.

Let’s keep Effingham County students safe. When the bus stops, YOU stop too. 👦👧

Applications are now open for State School Superintendent Richard Woods' 2026-2027 Student Advisory Council!

The Student Advisory Council gives Georgia students a direct voice in statewide education discussions. Members meet with Superintendent Woods throughout the school year, provide feedback on education policies, serve as student ambassadors, and complete a community service project.

This year, applications are open to Georgia public school students in grades 10-12 (including charter and virtual students). To broaden student voice, Superintendent Woods will also invite two homeschool students and two private school students to participate.

📚🎉 Tomorrow is the first day of school in Effingham County! As buses roll out and students return to classrooms, we’re excited to kick off the 2026–2027 school year!

🚨 As we begin, let’s put safety first. Georgia’s Addy’s Law, effective May 2024, enforces stricter penalties to protect students getting on and off school buses. Here's what drivers need to know:

🚍 2-Lane Roads: All traffic in both directions must STOP
🚍 Multi-Lane (Paved Across): All traffic in both directions must STOP
🚍 Divided Highway (with median/barrier): Only traffic behind the bus must STOP — oncoming vehicles must use caution

💡Reminder: Effingham County school buses are equipped with stop-arm cameras to catch drivers who fail to stop. Violators will face a minimum $1,000 fine.

INFORMATION REGARDING THE SCHOOL ZONE CAMERAS IN FRONT OF GUYTON ELEMENTARY;

As the new school year begins, we want our community to know that the City of Guyton will NOT be activating the school zone speed cameras at this time. With the recent changes made by HB 651, we believe it is appropriate to pause activation while we evaluate the best long-term approach for our community. This is only for the city of Guyton, not unincorporated.

The safety of our students remains our top priority and we ask every driver to slow down, stay alert, and obey the posted school zone speed limits when lights are flashing.

We hope everyone has a great school year! Thank you for helping us keep our children safe.
