In 1884 because of his love for the Christian religion and the Methodist Episcopal Church South, Mr. Bird, Speir, McLeod, Davant and Lawrence as trustees, one acre of land in the village of Marlow, Georgia, to be used as a place of divine worship. Said place of worship to be subject to the discipline of the general and annual conferences, of the Methodist Church. The above named gentlemen accepted

the trust and in a signed statement before a Justice of the peace pledged themselves "to erect with all diligence a temple for the worship of the Lord." However it was not until 1905 twenty one years later, that the Marlow Methodist Church South was organized and the present sanctuary built. The timber for the building was donated by some Presbyterians living in Marlow. Shearouse and children Hattie, Estelle, Kate and Lillian Lee; Mr. & Mrs. Dugger their daughter Lillian and son Robert; and the A. Shearouse family. Their daughter Lucille's wedding the next year 1906 was the first wedding held in this church. Among the first to join the church was O.N. Mingledorff Jr. (Newton) and Mildred Shearouse in 1907. This makes them having the longest membership of any as of 1969. In 1918, Mrs. Annie Shearouse "B.N." deeded to the church, the acre of land lying between the original lot and the present highway 17. When organized in 1905, and until the 1920 South Georgia circuit, her first pastor was the Rev. Christian, followed by the Rev. Artemus Lester, W.T. Thixson, W.A. Brooke, Leroy A Brown, H.C. Brewton, C.M. Ledbetter, J.J. Ansley, and T.M. Beales. In 1920 the church was transferred to the Bloomingdale circuit. The Rev. Gaines, M.W. Flanders and J.A. Cook served as pastors. In 1927 another transfer was made. At this time Marlow Church was placed on the Rincon circuit, remaining until 1962. At which time union church was merged with the Marlow Church and was placed on the Guyton charge. Pastors serving up to the present time are as follows:
E.R. Cowart, F.J. Gilbert, C.L. Glenn, B.L. Brown, M.M. Piece, B.E. Whittinghton, George A Turner, Wade Ward, W.H. Daniels, F.J. Jordon, Al. R. Crumpler, Carley L. Nease, E.M. Phillips, Hamp Watson, The Rev. Harold Brooks was the church first pastor after being placed on the Guyton charge followed by: Don Sparks, Charles B. Webster, and Jacob E. Lackey, as of this date 1975 the church has a Sunday School and United Methodist Women organization. More pastors on the Guyton Church, Rev. Sam Taylor, Harold Lumley, William B Dowdy, and Jacob Lockey. Meldrim UMC had Rev. Donald Powers, Rev. Dan Pegram and Stan Porter. In November of 20, 22, we voted to be separated from the United Methodist Church, as of March of 2023, we are now Marlow Methodist Church. We are part of the global movement now. What does it mean to be "in bitterness" of soul? Have you ever felt like this?

Why might God allow us to experience grief, bitterness, and anguish? Consider Psalm 34:18, Matthew 5:4, and second Corinthians 1:3-4.

Psalm 34:18 "The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit".

Thought to remember: God spoke a faithful word through Deborah.

Almighty God, help us remember that the victory is yours. Thank you for using people of all shapes, sizes, backgrounds, and skills to implement your will. May you embolden us to answer your call whenever and however it comes. In Jesus's name we pray. Amen.

How do you react to the violence in the story this week from our Sunday school? The whole scripture? Consider Matthew 5:7 and James 2:13. How do you reconcile the story with the New testament call to Mercy?

Matthew 5:7
Blessed are the merciful, for they will be shown mercy.

James 2:13
because judgment without mercy will be shown to anyone who has not been merciful. Mercy triumphs over judgment.

What is the role of fear in our lives? How does it protect, guide, or assist us? Is fear ever a good thing?

What role does God play in Overcoming our fears? How might the Christian community assist?

Consider Judges 4, 7, and 13 through 16. Why does God sometimes use "a cast of thousands" to accomplish his will but at other times he uses many fewer?

When have you participated in serving others with a large group? Small group? Independently?
