Please join your colleagues on Wednesday, January 15th for the public input portion of the MHCC board meeting. At the meeting, several of our colleagues will be making public comments about bargaining and the mediation session scheduled for the following day. Your presence, whether you’re speaking during public input or just being in the room to support our colleagues, can make an impact with the members of the board. That impact can put pressure on the college administration to agree to our demands in bargaining.

Your family and friends are also invited and encouraged to attend. We will meet in the TLC (room AC2553) around 5:00 pm on the 15th where we will have food and poster-making materials available. Around 6:10 pm, we will walk together to the board room where we will picket until the meeting begins at 6:30 pm. Our members will be speaking to the Board during the ‘Public Input’ portion of the meeting which usually concludes by 7:00 pm but may go longer depending on the number of people we have speaking. Once that portion of the meeting is over, you’re welcome to leave or stay for the remainder of the board meeting.

Joining us for public input will be Monica Weathersby, OEA’s Racial Equity Director. Monica will be speaking during public input in support for us!

Thank you to for bringing attention to the ongoing fight for a fair contract by MHCC’s Classified Employees Association. Our classified employees—those who keep our college running every day—deserve a contract that reflects their hard work, dedication, and the rising cost of living. This article highlights the critical issues we face: fair pay, inclusive family definitions, safe working conditions, and ending outsourced custodial work. United, we continue to push for what’s right for every MHCC staff member. It is with heavy hearts that we share the sudden loss of our friend and colleague, George Anderson, who passed away last week. George’s dedication to our bargaining team and the CEA community touched many of us, and his absence is deeply felt.

As a result, today’s scheduled bargaining session has been postponed to allow the team time to process and move forward without George, while honoring the legacy of his contributions. The CEA Executive Cabinet is working to arrange a time and place for us to gather, share memories, and support one another during this difficult time.

We will share further details soon. In the meantime, please remember to take care of yourselves and one another.

🗓️ Day 100 without a contract. That’s 100 days without the Cost of Living Adjustment (COLA) compensation we rely on to support our families and keep up with rising costs. Yet, despite this, MHCC’s classified staff continue to deliver excellence to students every single day.

We are dedicated to our students, their success, and this community. That’s the true spirit of the MHCC CEA—resilience, commitment, and professionalism.

We wonder, would MHCC’s managers feel the same if they had to forgo 100 days’ worth of their 6-9% pay increase from July 1? 🤔

This isn’t just about fairness—it’s about recognizing the hard work and dedication that keeps MHCC running. Stand with us. Support the MHCC Classified Employees.

Don’t forget! Wear green tomorrow! 💚

📊 COLA Over Time: Advocating for Fairness and Equity

At we pride ourselves on fostering a community rooted in equity. However, as this chart shows, while management pay raises have skyrocketed nearly 40% by 2024, our faculty and staff—who are the heart of our institution—have seen more modest increases in Cost of Living Adjustments (COLA).

As advocates for our members, the CEA is working hard to ensure that all employees, not just management, benefit from fair wage adjustments that keep up with inflation. True equity means ensuring that EVERYONE at MHCC is compensated fairly for their dedication and hard work.

We are committed to closing this gap and pushing for a more equitable future where all employees receive the recognition they deserve.

Equity starts with fair pay, and we’re fighting for just that.
