Boo Ramage was an outstanding member of our board of directors for nine years and served the foundation in many roles. We are thankful for her dedicated work and passion for the Greenwood community. In honor of her time with the foundation, Boo was invited to direct a $1,000 gift to a nonprofit of her choice. She chose the Greenwood Genetic Center Foundation, where she serves as Director of Philanthropic Services. Boo’s impact has been felt across every organization she has helped lead, and we are proud to support her continued efforts!

It takes a team to make granting decisions, with all members encouraged to vote. Here’s a quick overview of the process and how we give where we live.

Any nonprofit serving Greenwood County residents is eligible to apply, regardless of where it is headquartered. If an application meets our established criteria, it is placed on the ballot. From there, every GWC member receives a vote and ranks the organizations in order of preference.

After voting closes about 48 hours later, our Grants Review & Awards Committee reviews the results and identifies natural breaks in the rankings. The organizations with the strongest member support receive their full request first, and funding continues down the list as far as available dollars allow. Any organization that receives funding is not eligible to apply the following year.

Each application must clearly outline the need being addressed, why it matters, who will be served, and how GWC funds will be used. One year later, each recipient submits a written final report confirming that the funds were used as proposed.

Our grant model is intentionally member driven. Every award reflects the collective voice of the women of GWC and their shared commitment to investing thoughtfully in our community.

The Greenwood Rotary Club Foundation Endowment was created as an agency fund of our Community Foundation by local Rotarians who wanted to strengthen and sustain their Club’s charitable mission for generations to come.

This week, Rotary Club members Rodney Stone and Mary Margaret Jackson shared the annual distribution from the Endowment with the Club. We are pleased to encourage their putting service above self!

The Museum and Railroad Historical Center received a grant award from our last grant cycle for the purchase of archival materials to preserve items in The Museum’s permanent collection. This grant will support staff and interns in properly storing, cataloging, and researching artifacts among The Museum’s collection of about 50,000 items as they fulfill their mission to “Save, Share and Celebrate Greenwood History.”
