Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Incorporated honors Juneteenth, also known as Freedom Day, as an historic moment in American history. On June 19, 1865, news of the Emancipation Proclamation finally reached the last enslaved individuals in Galveston, Texas, marking the true beginning of freedom for all.

We proudly recognize the efforts of our own trailblazing Soror, Opal Lee, the “Grandmother of Juneteenth,” whose unwavering advocacy helped make Juneteenth a federally recognized holiday in 2021.

Today, we celebrate emancipation, reflect on our ancestors’ strength and resilience, and recommit to the work of advancing justice, equity, and unity. Through education, action, and solidarity, we move closer to a world rooted in true freedom for all.

During our chapter summit, we were able to officially celebrate our NEW Zeta Crystal Dove Janie Rouse on the extraordinary milestone of 50 Years of Service in Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Incorporated.

Initiated into the Mu Chapter at Claflin University in Spring 1976, Soror Rouse has dedicated five decades to advancing the principles of Scholarship, Service, Sisterhood, and Finer Womanhood. Throughout her distinguished journey, she has faithfully served in numerous leadership roles, including President, Parlimentarian, Scholarship Chair, and many other chapter and organizational positions.

We honor not only her years of service, but also the lasting legacy she continues to build through mentorship, leadership, and love for others.

Congratulations on 50 years of distinguished service, Soror Rouse! You shine brightly, and we are grateful for the impact you have made on our chapter, our community, and our sisterhood.
