Today, I had the honor of joining The Village Table founders Anna and Taylor in their beautiful space to have an open and necessary conversation about Black maternal health and systemic racism. What stood out most was their willingness to lean in, ask hard questions, and seek understanding with grace, empathy, and genuine compassion.

These women showed that advocacy is not limited by race or ethnicityβ€”it starts with the courage to listen, learn, and use your voice when injustice is present. Many shared their own anxieties, questioning whether their voices could truly make a difference, but together we affirmed that showing up authentically in support of marginalized communities matters deeply.

We also reflected on the beautiful legacy of Dr. Janelle Green Smith and the profound impact she left on so many lives. Seeing one of my former clients, whom I supported over three years ago, was an unexpected full-circle moment that reminded me why this work is so important.

This space was necessary. This dialogue was necessary. And I am deeply grateful to have been part of it.

Thank you, Anna and Taylor, for creating room for truth, education, and action.

Now comes the most important part: showing up when it matters most.

Motherhood can be beautiful, but it can also feel overwhelming, exhausting, and isolating. Whether you’re navigating pregnancy, postpartum, loss, or everyday motherhood, you deserve support, compassion, and care.

At Sunflower Births, we believe no mother should suffer in silence.
✨ You are not alone.
✨ It’s okay to ask for help.
✨ Healing is possible.

Let’s continue creating safe spaces, sharing resources, and uplifting mothers in every stage of their journey.

Anddddd, this is another reason why I am so frustrated. More people making decisions for women. Let’s talk about removing male genitalia and watch how it crumbles. Sick of it‼️

* A new bill is being proposed in South Carolina.
* Right now, the law generally bans abortions after about 6 weeks of pregnancy (often called the β€œheartbeat law”).
* This new bill would make the ban even earlier.
Instead of waiting until ~6 weeks, it would ban abortion as soon as a pregnancy can be medically confirmed (usually through a test or doctor visit).
* β€œClinically diagnosable” = when a doctor can confirm you’re pregnant.
That can be very early, sometimes around 4–5 weeks or even earlier, depending on testing.
* The bill has passed a committee (a smaller group of lawmakers reviewing it),
and now it’s moving forward to be debated by the full state Senate.

Black Maternal Health Week is more than awarenessβ€”it is a call to action. πŸ–€πŸŒ»

Black women continue to face disproportionate risks during pregnancy, birth, and postpartum, not because of race, but because of systemic inequities, bias, and barriers to quality care.

At Sunflower Births, we believe every mother deserves to be heard, respected, supported, and safely cared for.

This week and every week, we honor the strength of Black mothers while advocating for change in maternal healthcare.

April is Cesarean Awareness Month 🌻

Cesarean birth is sometimes necessary… sometimes life-saving…
but it should always be informed, respected, and supported.

Too many mothersβ€”especially Black womenβ€”are navigating birth without full understanding, without advocacy, and without the support they deserve.

At Sunflower Births, we believe:
✨ Your body deserves respect
✨ Your voice deserves to be heard
✨ Your birth experience mattersβ€”no matter how your baby arrives

C-sections are not failures.
They are births. They are stories. They are strength.

But we must continue to advocate for:
βœ”οΈ Reduced unnecessary cesareans
βœ”οΈ Informed consent and education
βœ”οΈ Better postpartum care and recovery support

Because healing is physical… emotional… and lifelong.

🌻 Whether you’ve had a cesarean, are preparing for birth, or support mothersβ€”this is your reminder:

Your body. Your birth. Your voice. YOU MATTER.
