Care doesn’t stop at birth. And it certainly shouldn’t stop at postpartum. 🀎

The postpartum period is just the beginning of a woman’s transition into a new season of life. She still needs support, education, resources, advocacy, mental and emotional care, community, and someone willing to ask, β€œHow are YOU really doing?”

Too often, we celebrate the baby and forget to continue caring for the person who carried, birthed, and is now learning how to navigate life after birth.

At SunFlower Births, we believe care should extend beyond the delivery room. From pregnancy to birth, postpartum, parenting, breastfeeding, and beyond, families deserve continued support and a community that shows up. 🌻

Because postpartum isn’t a deadline.
Healing isn’t a timeline.
And CARE should never have an expiration date. πŸ’›

Today was such a meaningful and necessary conversation here in Greenville. 🩷

I had the honor of serving as a Doula Panelist for β€œThe Tea,” a community conversation focused on the challenges Black women and Black families face in healthcare, family, and our communities.

I was blessed to sit alongside an incredible group of professionals, including an OB/GYN, neurologist, physicians, and clinical therapists, each bringing their own expertise and lived experiences to the table. As the Doula voice on the panel, I had the opportunity to speak about birth work, maternal support, advocacy, and the gaps families experience before, during, and after childbirth.

We were also able to bring our questions directly to Dr. Annie Andrews , a board-certified pediatrician, mother, and Democratic candidate for the U.S. Senate in South Carolina. Dr. Andrews has spent nearly two decades caring for children and families, and she is now seeking to bring that healthcare perspective and experience into public service. (Dr. Annie Andrews for Senate)

What I appreciated most about today was the opportunity to have real, honest conversations about healthcare beyond the delivery room. Maternal health is connected to mental health, access to care, chronic disease, family support, economic stability, and so much more. These conversations matter because the policies being discussed ultimately affect real women, real babies, and real families.

As a Doula, I believe advocacy is part of the work. We have to continue asking questions, sharing our experiences, educating our communities, and making sure the voices of the families we serve are represented at every table where decisions are being made.

Grateful to have been in the room. Grateful for the conversation. And grateful for every opportunity to use my voice to advocate for better outcomes for Black women, mothers, babies, and families. πŸ–€πŸŒ»

Yesterday, I had the absolute honor of attending the Women Who Heal event hosted by Heal H.E.R. Global, and I’m still trying to find the words to describe how powerful the experience was. ✨

What began with me being nominated for the Women Who Heal Award turned into an even more special moment as I was blessed to be one of five phenomenal women honored during the event. πŸ₯ΉπŸ€

To say I was honored is an understatement.

I left with chills, a full heart, and honestly… speechless. Hearing the stories of these incredible women and being surrounded by so many amazing women who lead, serve, and show up for their communities every single day was truly inspiring.

These women aren’t just bosses. They are visionaries, advocates, healers, change-makers, and women who DO THE WORK. They pour into others, create opportunities, advocate for their communities, and continue to make an impact in ways that reach far beyond themselves.

To be recognized among women of this caliber was incredibly humbling.

Sometimes, you’re so busy doing the work that you don’t stop to realize that someone is watching, someone is being impacted, and someone sees the heart behind what you do. This recognition reminded me of just that. πŸ’•

Thank you to Heal H.E.R. Global for creating a space where women can be celebrated not only for what they accomplish, but for the impact they make along the way.

I’m grateful. I’m humbled. I’m inspired. And I’m reminded that the work matters. πŸ‘‘βœ¨

Here’s to continuing to show up, serve with purpose, and leave every space a little better than we found it. πŸ₯‚

Today, I had the honor of joining The Village Table founders Anna and Taylor in their beautiful space to have an open and necessary conversation about Black maternal health and systemic racism. What stood out most was their willingness to lean in, ask hard questions, and seek understanding with grace, empathy, and genuine compassion.

These women showed that advocacy is not limited by race or ethnicityβ€”it starts with the courage to listen, learn, and use your voice when injustice is present. Many shared their own anxieties, questioning whether their voices could truly make a difference, but together we affirmed that showing up authentically in support of marginalized communities matters deeply.

We also reflected on the beautiful legacy of Dr. Janelle Green Smith and the profound impact she left on so many lives. Seeing one of my former clients, whom I supported over three years ago, was an unexpected full-circle moment that reminded me why this work is so important.

This space was necessary. This dialogue was necessary. And I am deeply grateful to have been part of it.

Thank you, Anna and Taylor, for creating room for truth, education, and action.

Now comes the most important part: showing up when it matters most.
