The Cheer Fund will be distributing gift cards and food from 10 - 1 Saturday, December 11. Approved applicants will receive a letter in the mail. You must bring this letter to the drive-thru. Any questions can be addressed to 812-663-3111 / 877-253-7758.

"I want to thank you from the bottom of my heart for the blessing you brought my son and I. I'm working so hard in my recovery today and it still is hard to make ends meet. I have 14 months sober on Christmas Eve and every bit of it is worth it. Hard work is bringing blessings daily. I wish nothing more than for God to BLESS each and every one of you who helped with this Cheerfund. God Bless and Merry Christmas."

Things worked out a little differently for Cheer Fund this year as recipients lined up for a contactless drive thru pickup. Greg Westrup and his crew kept the line moving through the fairgrounds to the livestock building where the Cheer Fund committee members and a handful of volunteers packed cars with food staples and handed out packets with Visa gift cards for the children. There were a lot of smiling faces, a few happy tears, and a lot of Christmas cheer! Thanks to everyone who donated money, time, food, gloves, hats, or helped in any other way! Together, we made the magic happen!! 🎅🎄

If you are a Cheer Fund recipient and have not received your letter, here are the directions to follow on Saturday:
Due to the spread of Covid and the necessary restrictions, the Cheer Fund will NOT be delivered to your home on Christmas Eve. Instead, you will need to pick up your items at the Decatur County Fairgrounds on Saturday, December 19 from 10 am - 1 pm. Please follow the directions below for a contactless delivery of your items.
1. Enter the Fairgrounds/City Park area using the SR 46 entrance. Follow the signs and the directions of the traffic controllers. You will be asked for your name and to see this letter. IF YOU DO NOT HAVE THIS LETTER, YOU WILL NOT BE ABLE TO PICK UP YOUR ITEMS. COPIES WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED. AS THERE ARE THOSE WHO MAY NOT RECIEVE THEIR LETTER IN TIME, WE WILL ACCEPT A PHOTO ID. You may designate a friend or family member to pick up your items, but they must have this letter with a note signed by you to pick up.
2. Continue to follow the directions around to the entrance to the livestock barn. You will pull into the livestock barn where the Cheer Fund volunteers will load food items and an envelope with a Visa gift card into your trunk or the back of your SUV or van. Please have this space cleared for the volunteer to easily place your items.
3. When directed, continue to pull forward through the barn and out onto the road. Turn right onto Park Road to leave the fairgrounds.
There will be no toys given out this year. The items you will receive will be basic food supplies (milk, eggs, peanut butter, jelly, etc.) and the Visa gift card. You may use the Visa card to purchase toys, food, and clothing, as needed for your child(ren).

We need you to break into your piggy bank!
The Cheer Fund is approximately $20,000 short of this year's goal. A large percentage of the Cheer Fund's donations come from people just like you! While we appreciate the donations received from businesses, the Cheer Fund volunteers cannot make Christmas happen without the $5, $10, and $20 donations that come from people who dig a little deeper into their pockets, purses, and piggy banks to help the children in need in Decatur County. Every single dime donated goes to Decatur County children. Please consider donating today. You can donate online at www.cheerfund.org or drop off/mail your donation to Daily News Cheer Fund, 135 S.
