It is DAY 2 of Camp Invention at North Decatur Elementary ! In Space Morphers, campers grew a dazzling crystal tree and hatched mysterious animal eggs and recorded data in their Space Lab.

In Make Waves, campers paddled through salty challenges and designed one-of-a-kind ocean innovations to solve surfer situations.

In Fur-ensics, campers explored the “who” and “how” as they eliminated suspects, collected curious clues and took a close-up look at fur and feathers under a microscope.

In The Infringers, campers explored security tools like iris recognition and reCAPTCHA, and added an impact light to their wearable device.

Thanks again to Linda Smith and the amazing staff for being so energetic, informative and inspiring to these students!

On the first day of Camp Invention, camper's excitement and confidence grew. They tackled more STEM challenges, made new friends and unlocked their creativity in the safe, supportive and super-fun environment at North Decatur Elementary. Thank you Linda Smith and her team of educators who provide this week long camp!!!

In Space Morphers, campers explored engineering concepts and they built their very own DIY space rocket.

In Fur-ensics, campers reverse engineered a robotic capybara and earned their detective badge during basic training.

In Make Waves, campers, splashed into hands-on buoyancy experiments and tackled an aluminum foil boat challenge.

In The Infringers, campers created a top-secret Do Something Box to keep their ideas secure and create a secret code to add to their wearable cryptography device.

Be sure and asks your kids what they enjoyed most about camp today. United Fund is proud to support this local camp for 70+ children to learn more about STEM Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math. It is going to be a great week!!!!

At Greensburg High School’s Honor Day, Senior Ashley Kalinowski received the Decatur County United Fund Governor’s Work Ethic Scholarship of $500. Over the last eight years, the United Fund has partnered with Greensburg High School to help strengthen employability skills that prepare students for today’s workforce. This certification encourages students to meet benchmarks that support their college and career goals.

Ashley has exceeded these goals while dedicating significant time and talent to creating set designs and bringing drama productions to life. Her goal has been to help kids express themselves and discover a love for the arts. She has participated in seven productions, including four youth shows and four high school shows. Through drama club, she hopes students find ways to express themselves that may change their lives forever.

Today we recognized Carmin Ripperger for serving her two-year term on the DCUF board and being the student representative from Greensburg Community High School.

Carmin has been instrumental in recruiting volunteers for the annual Strawberry Festival and Day of Caring, and learning so much about nonprofit board governance. Her committment and support have been greatly appreciated.

Congratulations Carmin! We are so proud of YOU. Good luck in the future and keep smiling!
