Volusia County 4-H Takes State Championships, Third Place in 2026 State Poultry Judging Contest
TAMPA, Fla. β Three teams of youth representing Volusia County recently competed on the state level and brought home two first place and third place honors at the 2026 Florida 4-H State Poultry Judging Contest, held on Friday, February 13 at the Florida State Fairgrounds in Tampa.
In the junior/intermediate division, for youth age 13 and under, team purple, that included Mykenzie Johnston, 11 of DeBary; Graham McGee, 13 of Melbourne; Jase Berry, 11 of Edgewater and Aiden Pabon, 13 of Deltona earned first place honors, and the title of state champion team.
Team gold, to include Willow Roske, 11 of Vero Beach; Biminy Balcius, 11 of Fellsmere; Alyssa Peterson, 12 of Deltona and Julian Seifert, 9 of Port Orange earned third place honors in the junior/intermediate division, followed by team blue in seventh place, with members Mya Johnston, 8 of DeBary; Ava Doubleday, 13 of Deltona; Willow Moore, 8 of New Smyrna Beach and Braelynn Smith, 10, also of Deltona.
Individually, team members brought home six top 15 finishes, with Mykenzie Johnston named as the overall reserve high individual for the junior/intermediate division, followed by Graham McGee in fifth, Willow Roske in sixth, Biminy Balcius in seventh, Alyssa Peterson in eighth, Mya Johnston in tenth, Jase Berry in eleventh and Julian Seifert in thirteenth.
Aubrey Moore, 13 of New Smyrna Beach, also competed as an individual and member of a mixed-county sixth place team.
In the senior division, for youth ages 14 and up, the senior team, that included Charlee Phillips, 14 of Deltona; Mykaelah Johnston, 14 of DeBary; Addison Richardson, 14 of Osteen and Landen Elseroad, 14 of Edgewater also earned first place honors and the title of state champion team.
As individuals, each finished in the top 15, with Charlee Phillips named as the overall high scoring individual for the senior division, followed by Mykaelah Johnston in second, Addison Richardson in ninth and Landen Elseroad in twelfth.
For their accomplishment, the senior team will now represent Florida on the national level this fall, at the National 4-H Poultry and Egg Conference, scheduled for November 17-19 in Louisville, Ky. as the second team from Volusia County to earn this honor.
The teams are coached by Abby Marion of DeLand, with a total of 15 teams from counties across the state competing across both divisions on Friday, February 13 in Tampa.
Poultry judging is a competitive event that challenges youth to develop skills in selecting, identifying and grading poultry products, including live birds, eggs and ready-to-cook chicken, while developing reasoning, confidence, decision-making and teamwork skills.
