❤️ Save a Heart. Save a Life. ❤️

The Rotary Club of East Ascension is proud to announce that this year’s Queen of Hearts (East Ascension Rotary Mardi Gras Ball) raised $46,000 for our beneficiary, Louisiana Pediatric Cardiology Foundation

For more than two decades, LPCF has carried a mission that’s simple in words but extraordinary in impact: catching heart conditions in children before they become tragedies. Every dollar raised goes toward heart screenings for kids right here in Ascension Parish — screenings that have already changed the course of families in our own community.

To everyone who attended, sponsored, donated, and volunteered: thank you. This is what happens when a community leads with heart.

Rotary was proud to welcome Patrick and Leah Conti, co-founders of Juniper Table, as our guest speakers this week!

Leah, a Baton Rouge native and LSU grad, set out with a plan to go into international missions. Patrick made Baton Rouge his home base in high school and has called it that ever since, even through 20 years focused on work overseas. Together, they've spent more than two decades in nonprofit work across three African countries, and for the last five years they've called Eswatini home.

There, they walk alongside local pastors, non-profit leaders, and missionaries, creating space for them to think strategically, rest, and grow in the work of serving their communities. Patrick brings his gifts as a spiritual leadership coach, strategic planner, and mentor. Leah, a certified MBTI facilitator, focuses on creating space for rest and refreshment for people who give so much of themselves to others.

Their takeaway is simple: good leaders, wherever they are, need the same things: rest, clarity, and a strong team. That's the work of Juniper Table.

Thank you, Patrick and Leah, for sharing your story with us! Learn more at junipertable.org

What a treat it was to hear from Gabriel Bostick at Rotary last week! He shared the heart behind his Dance & Neurodiversity Summer Camp, an all-ability program where kids build sensorimotor skills through dance and movement.

The camp welcomes children of every ability, with a special focus on supporting those with autism, cerebral palsy, and Down syndrome. No dance experience necessary, just curious hearts and moving feet!

Whether you have a family who might benefit or simply want to support this cause, we’re happy to make an introduction.

Great meeting yesterday at East Ascension Rotary! We had the pleasure of hearing from Nick Schexnayder, President of the Ascension Parks Foundation, a 501(c)(3) working to raise money for park improvements and projects across the parish.

Nick shared how APF is committed to responsible stewardship of donor funds while building strong partnerships with private industry and the community to grow our local parks.

Want to get involved? Here’s how:
🌳 Invest in your local parks
🎉 Sponsor or join an event
🤝 Become an APF Partner
📣 Spread the word about our parks

Mark your calendars for their upcoming event, Eat, Drink and Be Scary, on October 29th from 6-10pm at the Cabin and Courtyard! It’s a fun way to support our parks while enjoying a great night out.

Thanks for sharing your passion for our community, Nick!

What a great Saturday! East Ascension Rotary was honored to volunteer at the Ascension Youth Fest Back-2-School Bash in Donaldsonville, joining many other community volunteers to help kids enjoy free haircuts, school supplies, prizes, and games galore.

Thank you to the organizers and all the volunteers who came together to make sure our students start the school year feeling confident and ready. This is what community looks like!

Congratulations to our East Ascension Rotary honorees!

We are so proud to announce that three of our own Rotarians, Dara Stevens, Rhonda Allen Lamendola, and Tony Tureau, have been nominated as honorees for the 2026 American Cancer Society's Ascension Cattle Baron's Ball.

These three have stepped up to fundraise for a cause that touches so many lives in our community. Their dedication to service above self shines through in everything they do, and we could not be prouder to call them our own.

Over the coming weeks, they will be raising funds to support cancer research, patient care, and hope for families across our region. We know they are going to give it their all, and we want to cheer them on every step of the way!

Join us in celebrating Dara, Rhonda, and Tony, and if you are compelled to donate to their fundraising efforts, please see the link below. Every dollar makes a difference in the fight against cancer.

This week East Ascension Rotary welcomed Coach Patrick Mahoney and Coach Conor Karwath, who shared stories from East Ascension High School's wrestling program and the culture built there over decades.

Mahoney has been coaching since 1989, and one thing has stayed constant: every kid who walks through that door is welcomed, no matter who they are. His program is built for kids from every walk of life, and the only expectation is mutual respect. One parent told him it stopped feeling like "a wrestling thing" years ago, it became a home away from home.

Coach Karwath's own story is proof of that culture. Coached by Mahoney years ago, he went on to earn a wrestling scholarship and his degree. He coached at Catholic High for a year, but it never quite felt like home. Mahoney reached out and asked him to come coach at EA, and today he serves as head coach, giving back to the program and the man who shaped his journey.

While the wrestling program receives support from the school's booster club and holds fundraisers throughout the year, there are always additional expenses that come up along the way. If you're interested in helping sponsor the team, supporting a fundraiser, or celebrating these kids, reach out to the East Ascension High Schoolwrestling program!

Thank you to Jeremy Lankford for inviting the coaches to speak, and to Coach Mahoney and Coach Karwath for sharing your hearts for these kids with our club!

This week East Ascension Rotary welcomed Mandy Cushing, Executive Director of Maddie's Footprints - Greater Baton Rouge, as our guest speaker. Mandy shared the heart behind their mission: providing emotional and financial support to families in our community who have experienced miscarriage, stillbirth, or the loss of an infant. She walked us through ways to get involved, sponsorship opportunities, and their upcoming Footprints Forever 5K this October. Thank you, Mandy, for the important work you do and for sharing it with our club!
