East Ascension Rotary welcomed Willie Williams IV, his sister Willow Grace and mom Jasmine to our meeting today! Willie is a 10 year old student in Ascension Parish and a published author. Along with his sister Willow Grace, he co-wrote “Brave Hearts, Big Feelings,” a book sparking important conversations about children’s mental health, courage and emotional well-being.

Willie and Willow Grace are also co-founders of The IV & Grace Foundation, with a mission that goes far beyond one book. What an inspiration, not just for kids but for adults too! “Brave Hearts, Big Feelings” is available now on Amazon.

We visited the St. Amant Library today and it is NOT what you’d expect. 👀

3D printers. A recording studio. A teaching kitchen. A makerspace. Basketball AND pickleball courts.

All open to the community.

What an incredible presentation at today’s East Ascension Rotary meeting!

We had the privilege of hearing from Jhontre Green about the Freeland Jackson Center, a $7 million, roughly 25,000 square foot, state-of-the-art recreation facility coming to South Darla Road. This project is so much more than a building. It’s a tribute to a man who brought joy everywhere he went, and a commitment to carrying that spirit forward in our community.

The center will offer after-school and summer programs, partner with the Boys & Girls Club, and feature basketball courts, pickleball, conference rooms, a commercial kitchen, and more. Truly something for everyone!

Completion is expected in early July, and we can’t wait to see it come to life!

Our Rotary Club proudly joined Rotarians around the world in celebrating Rotary International’s EPIC Day of Service — a global day dedicated to serving our communities and meeting local needs through hands-on volunteerism.

This year, our club partnered with the Ascension Council on Aging to assist a senior friend whose home needed some significant TLC. Volunteers came together to help make her home safer, cleaner, and more comfortable by clearing debris and rubble, fixing the roof, cleaning the ditch area, mowing the yard, pressure washing, and making other repairs around the home.

Thank you to every Rotarian, volunteer, and community partner who showed up ready to work and serve. Service Above Self was on full display today, and we are proud to make a difference right here in Ascension Parish.
