‼️WARNING - kind of a gross one so scroll on at your own risk.
👻 With Halloween approaching it seemed a good time to share this creepy crawly discovery our team made during an otherwise routine spay surgery.
😱 KIDNEY WORM! This nasty worm literally slithered out of the dog and our surgery team gave a shriek but quickly recovered themselves to save the dog! It’s the fourth kidney worm our Evah team has “met” over the years, and each time it’s been a dog who was a roamer in a region full of bouncy fun frogs the doggy’s had such fun chasing and chomping …allowing the kidney worm access to the dog’s body (and the eventual consumption of the dog’s kidney).
🐸Save a frog. Save a dog.
(“hosts” can be raw freshwater fish or aquatic earthworms too).
👀 UPDATE - within 12 hours this educational (and creepy) kidney worm post had more comments than any post in our many years on FB. Our page moderator needs to get up early for work lol! So in an effort to limit the fake scam bot posts that inevitably start to tag comments we opted to turn off commenting to at least try to keep our EVAH page a safe and fun spot to monitor & to comment on, for our awesome followers.

Update: we have found a company who will make it for her from her Measurements and will ship in a few days. Total and shipping for it was $463.00 if you would like to donate anything towards that purchase we would greatly appreciate it. It is a lot of money, but it gives us a peace of mind being built specifically for her. It also will have padding in it so she isn’t too uncomfortable and won’t make sores on her 💗💗💗

We are desperately looking for someone who can build Wh***ey a Bailey chair, and we need it FAST! 🥺💔

With everything we learned today about Wh***ey’s esophageal stricture, we are going to start managing her feeding much like we would a dog with megaesophagus.

This means Wh***ey needs to eat in a completely upright position and remain upright for a period of time after eating to hopefully help keep her food down.

While we can physically help Wh***ey sit upright to eat, keeping a Great Dane her size in that position afterward has been extremely difficult. That’s where a Bailey chair would be an absolute lifesaver for us! ❤️

Wh***ey comes home TOMORROW, and time is not on our side.

She has already been through so much, and our biggest concern right now is keeping nutrition in her and preventing any further weight loss.

We cannot afford for Wh***ey to continue losing weight and getting weaker. If her health starts declining, it could create even more complications and potentially affect her ability to undergo the balloon dilation procedure she desperately needs.

We finally have an answer to part of what has been happening with our girl, but now we have to figure out how to manage it while we work toward getting her the treatment she needs.

We are NOT giving up on Wh***ey. Not now. Not after everything she has already fought through. 💗

We are looking for a local woodworker, carpenter, or anyone experienced with building Bailey chairs who could help us get one made for Wh***ey AS SOON AS POSSIBLE!

She is a Great Dane, so this will need to be a large, sturdy chair customized to fit her.

If you can build one, know someone who can, or have any leads, PLEASE reach out to us immediately!

Wh***ey needs every bit of help we can give her right now. Our goal is to keep her comfortable, keep her nourished, keep her strong, and get her healthy enough for the next step in her treatment.

This girl has fought too hard for us to let something like a chair stand in her way. 🥹🎀

The mums for sale at every store right now have a dirty secret: to a bee, they're fake, poison-laced flowers.

Garden mums have been bred for centuries toward bigger, fuller, rounder blooms. The way you get that look is by converting the parts of the flower that make pollen and nectar into extra petals. The result is a ball of petals with the food locked inside, or bred out entirely.

A bee lands, finds nothing, and leaves. Wasted energy at the most critical time for them.

Some are worse than empty. Mum growers have used systemic neonicotinoid insecticides, which the plant absorbs and carries into whatever pollen and nectar it does make. Some big box stores have phased them out, but there's no label requirement, and you can't tell by looking.

Timing makes it matter. Bumblebee queens are fattening up right now to survive the winter underground, and monarchs are fueling for Mexico. A pot of flowers that can't feed them is a missed meal in the month they need it most.

Two dead simple fixes if you want fall flowers on oyur porch:

If you want a mum, look at the center. A visible yellow disk means a bee can use it. Petals all the way in means it can't.

Better: put native asters next to them. Same bloom time, open flowers, covered in bees, and they come back bigger every year.
