This pup was reported for abuse months ago. Now he’s dead. 💔

This is exactly why you cannot make a report and assume something will be done. FOLLOW UP. Ask questions. Keep calling. Keep pushing until action is taken.

Reports get ignored. They fall through the cracks. And while everyone waits, animals continue to suffer, and sometimes they die.

Be loud. Be persistent. Don’t let them be forgotten.

Tenants at a south St. Louis apartment are demanding answers after an abandoned puppy died in a locked kennel inside a filthy unit. Becky Siebert says she reported the dog to management three months ago but her concerns were ignored: https://www.ksdk.com/article/news/local/outrage-after-abandoned-puppy-dies-in-south-st-louis-apartment/63-b8c5427a-fe88-4a0a-ba52-504683c212a9?utm_medium=social&utm_source=facebook_KSDK_News

❤️ Her name is Ophelia. ❤️

When we pulled “Claude” from animal control, we quickly discovered that Claude was actually a girl. Lexy chose the name Ophelia for her and somehow, it was perfect.

For fifteen years, Ophelia belonged somewhere. She had a life before we knew her, a story we may never know. Somehow, at the end of that long life, she was discarded in the middle of a road.

She arrived at animal control with painfully overgrown nails, her tiny body covered in fleas and suffering from a severe skin condition. Her eyes were infected. Severe, untreated dental disease had created a hole from her mouth into her nasal/sinus cavity. Anything she ate or drank could enter her nose, causing her to choke and putting her at tremendous risk for aspiration pneumonia.

And then she waited.

For a week, this fragile little old lady sat at animal control, carrying fifteen years of life inside a body that had simply endured too much. The moment we could pull her, we did.

Lexy offered to take Ophelia as her own and immediately took her to the vet. Not because she thought she could undo everything that had happened to her. Not because there was going to be some miraculous rescue story where Ophelia suddenly became young and healthy again.

She took her because Ophelia deserved better than dying alone.

She deserved to be held. She deserved a soft blanket beneath her tired little body. She deserved gentle hands instead of pavement and a kind voice telling her she was a good girl.

She deserved a name. And Lexy gave her one. She played “Ophelia” by The Band for her while Ophelia happily gnawed on a donut.

Her rescue wasn’t about saving her life. It was about making sure that when her life ended, she knew she mattered.

At the vet, Lexy gave Ophelia the peaceful ending she should have been given after fifteen years on this earth. There was no more waiting. No more hurting. No more wondering if someone was coming for her. Someone came for her in the end.

And when it was time, Ophelia didn’t leave this world abandoned on a road or alone in a kennel. She left it loved, held, warm, and with a name.

We couldn’t change Ophelia’s story. But we could change the ending. And sometimes, that is rescue too.

Rest peacefully, sweet Ophelia. 🖤
You deserved so much better from this world. But in your final moments, you were someone’s and you were loved.

💔 Hang in there, Claude. 💔

We just pulled this very elderly Chihuahua from Jerseyville, IL Animal Control.

Claude was found last week in the middle of the road, all alone. Sadly, no one came forward to claim him.

We certainly hope he wasn’t dumped because of his age. This is the time in his life when he needs his family the most.

Claude is now on his way to meet his new mama, who is taking him straight to her vet.

We don’t know how much time this sweet old man has left, but whatever time he has, he will be safe and loved.

Hang in there, Claude. We’re all rooting for you!

Special thanks to Nikki for going out of her way to pick up Claude while she was already in the middle of another transport. We appreciate you always stepping up when we need you!

Chewy has met a couple of families, but unfortunately, they just weren’t the right fit. 💔 He is terribly shy and needs someone who understands that trust takes time. If you have a big heart, patience, and are willing to give Chewy the time he needs to acclimate, please consider giving this sweet boy a chance.
————————
Chewy is a Shih Tzu, possibly Maltese mix, estimated to be 1–2 years old. He is incredibly sweet and affectionate with his people and absolutely loves to snuggle. Whether he’s curled up in your lap, laying on your shoulder, or relaxing on the couch nearby, he’s happiest just being close to you.

Chewy does well with dogs and kids, but he can be protective and cautious at first, and honestly, we don’t know what this little guy has been through before rescue. Because of that, slow introductions with people and dogs are important. A home without rambunctious toddlers would be best.

He would thrive in a calmer home environment without a lot of people or children constantly coming and going.

Chewy is puppy pad trained with only occasional accidents, and he’s a smart boy who should pick up house training quickly with consistency.

A fenced yard is a must.

If you think Chewy could be the perfect addition to your family, please apply to adopt.

🐾 SKIPPY IS READY FOR ADOPTION! 🐾

Remember the little Pom who spent weeks surviving on the streets of Edwardsville, IL? Well, Skippy is officially ready to find his forever family!

Skippy is the sweetest little boy! He’s a young Pomeranian, approximately 1–3 years old.

He can be a little shy when first meeting someone, but once he feels comfortable, he is incredibly affectionate and loves being loved.

🐶 LOVES other dogs! We would prefer another dog in his new home.
🐱 Cat friendly!
🏠 Working on house training and currently wears a belly band to monitor his progress and prevent marking on furniture. Belly bands are a LIFESAVER. IYKYK! 😂

Because Skippy spent so much time surviving on the streets, he may be a flight risk while acclimating to a new home. A secure fenced yard is required.

This sweet little guy has come a long way. Now he just needs a family to call his own.

🎉 PIKACHU IS HOME! 🎉

Pikachu escaped her yard days ago after someone accidentally left the gate open.

We were first alerted about her by a FAHR adopter who told us a dog had been hanging around her property.

We asked her to immediately start putting food out until we could get there with a trap.

Thankfully, this sweet bully girl found the food and kept coming back.

Yesterday, while we were attempting to trap her, we happened upon Pikachu’s owners while they were out searching for her!

Pikachu was in full flight mode and continued to run from them. We explained that chasing or trying to approach her would only keep her moving, and walked them through our trapping process.

They happily agreed to let us do our thing, knowing we would return her home as soon as she was safely secured.

It took Pikachu a few hours to finally work up the courage to go into the trap, but she finally did!

Once secured, Vicki was able to slip lead her and reunite Pikachu with her very relieved family.

Welcome home, Pikachu! We’re so glad your little adventure is over!

❤️ Look at her now! ❤️

One of the hoarder dogs enjoying some much deserved playtime after a desperately needed groom.

Friday night, our volunteers spent four hours carefully shaving the severely matted, f***s covered fur from her little body.

Yesterday, Flawless Groomerie generously provided complimentary grooms for the dogs confiscated from the hoarder house. They looked and smelled absolutely amazing afterward.

We can’t thank you enough, Amanda, for your kindness and generosity. THANK YOU!

And one more thing…

We are aware that the owners of Trendy Tails and Training reportedly have family and friends searching for these dogs with the intention of applying to adopt them and getting them back.

Let us make ourselves perfectly clear: OVER OUR DEAD BODIES.

After what these dogs endured, we will do everything legally within our power to ensure they are protected and NEVER end up back in the hands of the people responsible for their suffering, or anyone acting on their behalf.

These dogs deserve better. And we will fight like hell to make sure they get it.
